Explore the Power BI Report Builder interface, create data sources and datasets, build basic table reports with groupings and matrices, and learn printing, exporting, and publishing.
Identify the differences between Power BI Desktop, Power BI Desktop for Report Server, Report Builder 3.0, and Power BI Report Builder, and download the two required tools.
Explore the report builder interface, run embedded data reports, and identify data sources, data sets, and data regions to design and publish Power BI reports.
Explore column groups in Microsoft 365 Power BI Report Builder, learn how data is summarized by column and row, and compare table and matrix structures through drill-downs.
Learn the distinction between saving a report and publishing it to the Power BI service, including how to sign in, use the publish button, and place reports in my workspace.
Plan data connections, run a test query, and consider screen estate as you design Power BI service reports with interactive elements like drill down, drill through, and dynamic outputs.
learn to load data into the Power BI service from Excel, publish from Power BI Desktop to a workspace, and access the dataset in Power BI Report Builder.
Learn to set up a data source in Power BI Report Builder, connect a Power BI data set, and save your report to the Power BI service.
Observe that in Power BI report builder data set is a query with settings and contains no data. Operate with the service data set, which holds data and is shareable.
Explore how Power BI datasets are queries with optional settings. See how case sensitivity and accent sensitivity, governed by auto, true, or false, affect sorting and grouping for international data.
Filter at the data source level to reduce data transfer and boost performance when handling data sets, as shown with a profit for Sweden dataset containing region, country, and profit.
Explore report properties in Power BI Report Builder by using the properties pane to inspect body, header, and footer properties, and experiment with advanced mode and table components.
Explore data regions in Power BI Report Builder, including tables, matrices, and lists that accept data from a data set, and learn how to convert between them through properties.
Explore creating a table or matrix in Power BI report builder using the wizard, dragging fields like country, shipper, and salesperson, adding subtotals, and saving as a new report.
Harness the table wizard in Microsoft 365 Power BI Report Builder to create a table with row groups by region and country, format profit as currency with subtotals above.
Examine and adjust the wizard-generated settings in Microsoft 365 Power BI Report Builder, including grouping by region, sorting, page breaks, and visibility toggles.
Learn how to manually create row groups in Power BI report builder by adding region and country groups, adjusting headers and visibility, and formatting currency for clear grouped tables.
Use the matrix wizard to group data by country as rows and by segment as columns, summing profit with subtotals and grand totals, and save as Arimaa analysis six.
Learn basic formatting of a matrix report: align column headings and numeric fields, apply currency formatting with fewer decimals, bold segments, and add background colors while considering browser color differences.
Explore the expression builder in Microsoft 365 Power BI Report Builder, mastering the expression dialog, data sets, operators, dotted notation, and common functions for robust reports.
Modern day report writing involves creating interactive reports that are published and shared with others within an organization. These reports must be accessible and usable on mobile devices. Microsoft's Power BI Report Builder joins the Power BI platform, along with other products, to deliver this functionality. This course is for beginners who need to learn how to create basic reports. In this course, reports are created, published, and accessed through a browser. The course begins with explanations of the related technology and necessary terminology. The steps for downloading Power BI Report Builder are demonstrated. The Power BI Service is introduced. Several completed reports are examined in order to explore the Report Builder environment and learn where all the necessary features are located. Data Sources are created that connect to several different data sources, including the Power BI Service itself. Datasets, which are essentially queries, are created next. Basic table reports are created and techniques for sorting and grouping follow. Matrices are created after the standard tabular reports are created. A matrix is as close we get to an Excel-style PivotTable in Report Builder. Expressions are like miniature formulae that often use Excel-style functions to produce results. Expressions are one of the most powerful aspects of Report Builder, so expect to see Expressions covered in the Intermediate and Advanced courses as well. Moving back to the Power BI Service, workspaces are examined as the containers for reports. Reports are stored here so that they may be shared with others. Finally, skills for printing, exporting, and publishing reports round out the course.
