P.S. The ultimate goal of this course is to get you to experiment with productivity methods until you find the one that’s just right!
Procrastination is not sheer laziness or a matter of avoiding work; it’s a coping mechanism for dealing with stress! Basically our brains think: avoid the trigger = avoid the bad mood.
What we need is a fast, simple, foolproof technique to help our brains avoid...er...avoidance in the first place!
The 5 Second Rule (by Mel Robbins) might be one of the simplest, yet effective, methods to overcome procrastination. Mel believes that you can use the Rule and its countdown method to break any bad habit, interrupt procrastination, and push yourself to take the actions that will change your life.
Included in this lecture are a graphic with main takeaways from her book, as well as a writable spreadsheet that you can use to make each workday more productive.
Back to you. Only you know how you work best, but it may take some soul searching to bring it out. You are unique—and that’s so beautifully human of you! Now it’s time to honor your uniqueness by working with your strengths and weaknesses rather than against them.
As you progress through this course - experiment with productivity methods until you find the one that’s just right!
How do you eat a frog? One bit at a time. In this lecture we'll discuss how this handy method can help you tackle your largest and most complicated tasks each day.
Don't forget to download your "Frog" worksheet!
Time blocking is one of my personal favorite productivity methods (if you can maintain it)! In this brief lecture we'll discuss how to block out your entire day for both business and personal to-do's.
Not into putting things on a digital calendar? Download your time-blocking worksheet instead.
The Pomodoro Technique is a time management system that encourages people to work with the time they have—rather than against it. It was designed by an Italian student in the 80's who set his kitchen timer (in the shape of a tomato) to 25-minute intervals.
The idea behind the technique is that the timer instills a sense of urgency. Rather than feeling like you have endless time in the workday to get things done and then ultimately squandering those precious work hours on distractions, you know you only have 25 minutes to make as much progress on a task as possible.
Don't forget to use the Tomato Timer!
Each one of us has natural ebbs and flows of energy each day. This methods hopes to help you find your most productive, focused time of day.
This lectures comes with a cool Excel spreadsheet to help you calculate your own "Biological Prime Time". This will help you to understand when you work best, so you can structure your day efficiently around these periods of productive time.
One of the most famous productivity hacks attributed to Seinfeld is the “Don’t break the chain” technique. As an up-and-coming comedian, Seinfeld only had one goal: to write one joke a day. Nothing more, nothing less.
"The way to be a better comic is to create better jokes and the way to create better jokes is to write every day. After a few days you’ll have a chain. Just keep at it and the chain will grow longer every day. You’ll like seeing that chain, especially when you get a few weeks under your belt. Your only job is to not break the chain."
Mark Forster, a British author best known for his books on productivity, created the Commitment Inventory, because every he felt that other methods fell short. As he points out, it's not time that we should focus on — there are 24 hours in every single day, no matter how we slice and dice them. Instead, we need to learn to manage our attention. Life presents us with an infinite number of possibilities to pursue, but we can't choose them all.
This theory, in my opinion, is a combination of the previous methods we've just covered. Let's look at how they work together in Forster's mind, and don't forget to download the writable workbook in this lecture to help you nail this method!

About the instructor:
I'm Erin, and I procrastinated making this course for 7 months. True story. Until I had a session with my own coach where we talked about the importance of taking action, no matter how small, to combat procrastination. I've since re-implemented the methods in this course to my personal and professional life and - to no ones surprise - my work improved, I got more done in a day than I thought was possible, and my anxiety went down.
When I'm not procrastinating, I'm a virtual assistant and VA Coach who has successfully helped over 30,000 happy students launch their own VA businesses.
I hope to see you in the course! Together, we can make magic happen.
