You learn to draw the rough shapes of the four parts of the American Continent

North America with the three prominent countries on it, viz. Canada, USA & Mexico

South America with the two top 10 largest countries, viz. Brazil & Argentina

and in between North & South America, we have

Central America with the famous country of Panama which has the Panama Canal allowing ships to go from Atlantic Ocean to Pacific Ocean without having to go down the southern tip of South America

And to the right of Central America, you have the Caribbean Islands

We will go through in detail, all the 7 countries in Central America and the 13 island countries in the Caribbean Islands in their Sections below

Here you draw a roughly accurate map of Africa

and you learn to spot the corner countries, like

Egypt, in top right corner i.e. NorthEast

Morocco, in top left corner i.e. NorthWest

and

South Africa, the southernmost

we will be filling in all the 54 countries of Africa, later, in the relevant sections.

Asia has a curious shape, with India right in the middle, West Asia to the left [West] and a bulb shaped coastline on the right [East]. Three of the largest top 10 countries are in Asia. And Russia, which is mostly in Asia forms the entire Northern region of Asia. Russia can be called an Eurasian country. Its capital city, Moscow, is in Europe.

Europe is above Africa and

Europe is to the West of Asia

note the prominent countries of Europe: France & Germany

and see the peninsulas into the Mediterranean Sea, to the south of Europe

viz. Spain, Italy and Greece

We will deal with all the various regions of Europe in the sections below

Australia is considered to be a continent

but many people don't know that this continent, which is also known as Oceania

has as many as 14 countries which includes Australia and New Zealand

All the countries in the Northernmost region of Africa have a coastline with Mediterranean and across that Sea, is the Southern Europe.

For the second layer of the Northern countries [from left to right, now], the mnemonic is

Central African Republic, as its name suggests, is right at the centre of Africa

other prominent countries are Nigeria & Cameroon, both having produced great soccer players

Remember Niger which we had seen in Northern Africa.

Niger & Nigeria both have the River Niger flowing through them, hence the names.

South Sudan is the newest country in the world having split from Sudan in 2011

and the mnemonic to use, is

Each of the first three countries in this mnemonic has portions of Lake Victoria

There are many small countries and they are

Cape Verde, Sao Tome & Principe, Madagascar, Comoros Is, Seychelles & Mauritius

North of Germany, we have a small country Denmark and below and left of it, are the countries of Netherlands & Belgium and below them France

There are eight countries here, out of which seven came out of a split from a former country called YUGOSLAVIA which does not exist any more. Instead, it is called SERBIA.

The eighth country in this region, Albania, existed from before.

The countries have been divided into three mnemonics

First Three, from left to right [starting from Italy to the left]

There are a few countries in Europe which are as large or slightly bigger than a city but are countries

England, a major European country, is an island. So is Ireland. And there are others, like Iceland much above and to the left of Norway. And two more island countries in the Mediterranean Sea, south of Europe, called Malta and Cyprus. One of the largest islands in the world, Greenland, is in Europe but is a part of the tiny country of Denmark.

India is almost at the centre of Asia. On the west of India, you have Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran and then comes Turkey, a country which is both in Asia and in Europe

India is part of the Indian peninsula which juts out into the Indian Ocean

India is right at the middle of Asia and is very easily noticeable on the map

Adjoining India there are a few tiny countries which we need to learn about

To the north of India, are the Himalayas, the tallest mountain range in the world

and in this mountainous terrain, are two fascinating countries very popular with tourists and trekkers, nay, mountaineers. They are Nepal and Bhutan

Then there is Bangladesh touching the Bay of Bengal

Three of the island countries are above the equator, one, Kiribati is on the Equator and one is below the Equator

Melanesia is the closest to Australia to its eastern coast.

There are four island countries, one of which, Papua New Guinea, shares an island with Indonesia which is said to be in Asia.

Polynesia has three more island countries

Samoa, Tonga & Tuvalu

If you see in the map there are many more larger islands in this region but they are not independent countries and are territories of countries like France and others
