Draw a very basic thematic map of the world so you know the relevant position of the continents. Also get the basic shapes of the continents to start with. We will draw each continent in detail in the later sections
As soon as you are able to identify the top 10 largest countries of the world, you have a pretty good grasp of the World Map. You know its main components. Go for it. After seeing this video, you can take a blank map of the World and highlight the largest countries. Way to go !!
We have only a few Oceans in this world
Atlantic Ocean between the Americas & Europe Africa
Pacific Ocean between east coast of Asia and west coast of the Americas
Indian Ocean below India which touches Africa on the left (West) and Australia on the East
Southern Ocean below the southernmost parts of the world viz South America, South Africa & Australia
Southern Ocean goes all the way down to Antarctica
and
Arctic Ocean, right at the top, above Canada and Russia
You learn to draw the rough shapes of the four parts of the American Continent
North America with the three prominent countries on it, viz. Canada, USA & Mexico
South America with the two top 10 largest countries, viz. Brazil & Argentina
and in between North & South America, we have
Central America with the famous country of Panama which has the Panama Canal allowing ships to go from Atlantic Ocean to Pacific Ocean without having to go down the southern tip of South America
And to the right of Central America, you have the Caribbean Islands
We will go through in detail, all the 7 countries in Central America and the 13 island countries in the Caribbean Islands in their Sections below
Here you draw a roughly accurate map of Africa
and you learn to spot the corner countries, like
Egypt, in top right corner i.e. NorthEast
Morocco, in top left corner i.e. NorthWest
and
South Africa, the southernmost
we will be filling in all the 54 countries of Africa, later, in the relevant sections.
Asia has a curious shape, with India right in the middle, West Asia to the left [West] and a bulb shaped coastline on the right [East]. Three of the largest top 10 countries are in Asia. Europe is above Africa and
Europe is to the West of Asia
note the prominent countries of Europe: France & Germany

We will deal with all the various regions of Europe in the sections below
Australia is considered to be a continent

where except Albania, all the others were part of the earlier country of Yugoslavia
There are a few countries in Europe which are as large or slightly bigger than a city but are countries
England, a major European country, is an island. So is Ireland. And there are others, like Iceland much above and to the left of Norway. And two more island countries in the Mediterranean Sea, south of Europe, called Malta and Cyprus. One of the largest islands in the world, Greenland, is in Europe but is a part of the tiny country of Denmark.

Adjoining India there are a few tiny countries which we need to learn about
To the north of India, are the Himalayas, the tallest mountain range in the world
and in this mountainous terrain, are two fascinating countries very popular with tourists and trekkers, nay, mountaineers. They are Nepal and Bhutan

Melanesia is the closest to Australia to its eastern coast.
There are four island countries, one of which, Papua New Guinea, shares an island with Indonesia which is said to be in Asia.
Polynesia has three more island countries

Learn to draw the World Map freehand including all the 194 countries by using simple straight lines for the most part.
We have subdivided the World Map into continents and each continent into regions.
Then we show you how to draw a rough outline of each continent and in turn each region of the continent using nothing more than straight lines. Then we dive deeper and draw the outlines of each and every country of the world, again drawing their boundaries using just straight lines.
Then, we bundle a few countries together and create a mnemonic sentence to help you remember the location of each and every country, exactly in place. If you practice a bit, you will not make a mistake and will know which country is to the left and which country is to the right of any country you choose to focus on.
This may look like a tall order, but it is not. First of all, the drawing part is very easy as it is made up of straight lines. We have maintained verisimilitude with the actual shapes even while using simple lines to draw the country outlines. We recommend that you keep an atlas handy and cross check after learning each module. Then the mnemonic sentences are fun to remember and use.
The most important thing is to know where the countries are located and which are the countries around them. And that is what this course intends for you, that you will not grope around if you heard places like Albania or Eritrea or Armenia; and would be able to distinguish between Slovenia and Slovakia. Once you build up the sense of the countries and where they are, you can go onto learn much more about the culture, history and whatnot about our fascinating mother Earth and its beautiful people.
