Have a look at the course ahead :)
Introduction to the course on Maya 3D Modelling and rendering.
Basics of the layout and panel sets withing Maya, we also look at setting a project for Maya.
Let's create some basic shapes, learn how to Navigate around within Maya.
Component selection is very important let us look how easy it is the access this.
Get ready for the course by setting up the project!
Also remember to download the Assets:
Model files and reference images used within the course.
Lets have a look at the reference images we will be using during the course.
First things first we need to set up our image planes to use as reference for modelling.
Box modelling is one of the main stays of 3D modelling, over the next few lessons we will focus on this important technique.
Using the reference we slowly build up our seat section.
The main seat shape.
OK nearly there lets finish off our seat using box modelling.
Final tweaks and adjustments for our seat section.
now we have completed the seat we will now focus our energies on the rocker sections.
If you have completed this so far GOOD JOB!
The basic shape of our rocker is taking shape lets now finish off!
We will now analyze the Wire frame supports for our chair it is important to work out and have a good understanding of what you are about to do especially with complex parts.
We will now set up a n box to contain and get a good relationship for our rocker section to the seat section.
Let's now carry on with the wire frame parts.
Combining meshes and bridging are skills you should be comfortable with, lets complete these steps next.
We need to model our cross supports its tricky but I know you guys will do it!!
Lets finish off the remaining strut sections.
Next we need to build in more detail on our frame this includes adding weld points and support brackets.
So close now!!
Lets finish off the frame, are you still keeping up? GREAT!!
We now need to do a bit of extra refining to our Rocker pieces just to make sure its all correct.
Keeping your scene clean and tidy is crucial maybe not so much with this simple project because we have minimal parts but imagine a scene containing hundreds of pieces that why its good practice no matter how small to keep to your scene clean!
Nice easy one shock absorber's created from a simple cylinder.
We need to add an circular indent into the rocker, this is potentially a problem as we need a higher geometry than the rocker itself so we need to create a piece that matches up from higher resolution to lower so we can fit it to the rocker part.
it is very important you spend some time on this section and understand what we are doing here.
Now we have created our patch lets position it and merge it into the rocker piece.
Lets now add some detail by creating a bolt head and the Nuts.
Now we have our Bolt head and Nut we need to place them into position.
Again we need to clean up our scene, get into the habit.
In this lesson I will try to explain what UVs are.
SHORT EXPLANATION
UV's are co-ordinates on a geometric surface! we can layout or flatten this so we are able to texture it!
OK so I guess you can skip the video now :)
OK we will get back to UV's but first I want to take you through Maya basic shader's / materials
Geometry has a right and wrong side, lets look at this, these are called Surface Normal's.
Creating a custom camera for your shots or animation is a must, you always want to keep your Maya default camera freed up, so you can jump them.
In this lesson I will show you tricks to parent the camera to a locator we will then key the locator and not the camera!
I will show you how to render from Maya software renderer and still get the smooth geometry to show, we will also set up Maya to use Mental Ray.
Lighting we need it right!!! lets have a look at the light types and tips along the way.
Increasing the shadow quality using mental ray.
Lets UV the rocker pieces.
Now we have the rocker uv's set we now need to apply a texture to this.
Getting realistic reflections and lighting can be hard we can utilize HDRI maps to give us excellent results.
Adding Mental Ray Materials and why we use them.
Lets apply our mental Ray Materials and use some presets!
Setting up render passes is extremely important if you want total control over your image!
Now we have produces our render passes, lets composite them together.
TOP TIP
Layer order generally is from bottom up so we start with:
Introduction to the help section.
Lets look at the Axis, transform and freeze and how we use them.
Introduction to NURBS modelling.
Revolving a profile using NURBS.
What are the curve types?? I will show you.
Lofting is probably the most commonly operation on a NURBS surface.
Part 2 of NURBS lofting.
Using a Birail operation is great specially if you need your surface to change over a distance set to the profiles and rails.
Converting from a NURBS surface to a polygon surface.
For those who have finished the course a massive "Well done!" for those still completing the course "Keep it up!" I just want to say thank you for choosing me and my course, it is really appreciated and means that I can produce more great courses for you in the future!
