Description

Objective of the Course

The three main objectives of the course are:

• Introduction to main number systems, Decimal, Binary, Hexadecimal and Octal. There are many other number systems but we would focus only on these main four.
• We will focus on Binary Calculations which would include Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division
• Finally, our focus will shift to conversions between decimal, binary, hexadecimal and octal numbers.

What to expect from the course

• We are all comfortable with decimal numbers, but after completing this course, you will become comfortable with Binary, Hexadecimal, and Octal numbers.
• You can expect the expertise in binary calculations, which includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• You would get the proficiency in conversions between Decimal, Binary, Hexadecimal and Octal numbers.

What is required for the course- basic qualifications

Generally, before starting any course we need to understand the basic qualifications required to start and complete the course. As this course is called as the "Mathematics of Number Systems", therefore, it is necessary to have:

• Basic skills in mathematical calculations, which means that you need to know about basics of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• You must have the interest in numbers. Whenever we are doing a course in mathematics and number systems, it is necessary to have the interest in numbers. It does not mean that you need to be passionate about numbers, only thing required is to have no fear with numbers.
• And finally, is the completion of course. This is an important part, as without completing the course you will not be able to get the comprehensive understanding about the mathematics specified in the course. To meet the basic objective of the course it is necessary that the course is finished.

Right way to Study this Course

• To get the maximum value out of this course you need to start from the beginning and move step by step forward. This is important as to understand a topic we need to get clarity about its previous topics. For example, for doing the division in binary it is necessary we have the proficiency over binary subtractions. Similarly, to solve binary multiplication problems we must know binary additions.
• It is required that you follow the instructions as a specified in each section. In some of the places it is asked to pause the video to solve a problem, while at other places you would be asked to refer the documents provided with the course. Following the instructions would help you to become the better learner in the course.
• It is suggested that even if we have some brief understanding about a specific portion, it would be beneficial that we complete those topics in the course. It would act like the good revision for the subject and act as an opportunity to build a momentum for completing the course.
• The topics are explained in a simple way, with both simple and complex examples. It would be great that after understanding the topic, the students practice their proficiency in the subject by solving several questions from different sources, which could be books, Internet and other resources.

Target audience for the course

• Any person with an interest in learning about major number systems, would find the course interesting and beneficial.
• Students of technology who are interested in getting clarity about Binary calculations, would find the course as a valuable resource to get strengthen their basics in the calculations of number systems.
• Corporate executives who have forgotten the basic concepts of number system and want to revise the important topics and methods of calculations would find the course beneficial.
