Description

This course covers Unit 1 of Pre-Calculus 12 (Alberta Math 30-1): Transformations and Functions — the most important foundation for success in advanced algebra and calculus.

Students will develop a deep understanding of function notation, domain and range, and how to analyze and interpret graphs with confidence. You’ll learn how to apply and combine transformations — vertical and horizontal shifts, reflections, stretches, and compressions — to build complex functions from simple parent graphs.

We go beyond memorization. You’ll understand why transformations behave the way they do, including the subtle but crucial differences between inside and outside changes to a function. Through clear explanations, worked examples, and exam-style practice problems, you’ll gain the tools needed to handle polynomial, rational, radical, and absolute value functions with precision.

This unit is essential preparation for the rest of Pre-Calculus 12 and for Math 31 (Calculus). Whether you’re upgrading, preparing for university, or aiming for a top mark, this course will give you the clarity and confidence to excel.

Build strong foundations. Master transformations. Think mathematically. I look forward to you joining us in this program, I have a degree in Applied Mathematics from Athabasca University and I am excited to share my knowledge of math with you here in this program.
