Learn to structure the first Pilates hour, including new client paperwork, quarterly progress reports, three analyses of mat movements, and cueing to correct movement patterns using four cores.
Print orientation forms and use the online client orientation form and movement cheat sheet, have clients arrive ten minutes early, and perform the postural assessment with anatomy man before movement.
Assess clients using a movement cheat sheet by watching a pelvic curl across four areas—shoulder blade, upper back, lower back, and hip—and mark findings to reveal patterns across exercises.
You will need to print the Movement cheat sheet out for each client. There are 17 movement faults you can look for in each exercise. Here I will show you how to complete it
Here are the notes about the client's background:
1. Mother
2. Office job
3. Have 10 kids
4. Right hand dominant
5. Right shoulder problem?
6. Right foot dominant
7. Carry baby on right
8. NEED: Tone Abs
9. New to Pilates
10. Look at nutrition
11. Neck pain
12. Shoulder pain
13. Work a lot above shoulder
14. Lower back pain
15. High blood pressure
16. Need to destress
17. Normal, V-back and C-section
Define the core as stabilizer muscles protecting organs and stabilizing joints, with four regional cores, and differentiate stabilizers from mobilizers within neutral joint ranges.
Develop client assessment for the first Pilates hour and analyze intermediate leg lifts to tailor a safe, effective Pilates plan.
Analyze the supine spine twist by dissociating upper and lower body, monitor 5–10 degree lumbar rotation and 30 degree upper-back rotation, and identify five cheats involving obliques and gluteal muscles.
Mastering the chest lift with rotation trains dissociation of upper and lower back, engages the internal oblique and lower trapezius, and stabilizes the shoulder blade for clean spinal rotation.
How to complete the cheat sheet:
1. Add up crosses and write it in on the right
2. Choose the top 3 directions and write it in at MOVEMENTS TO FOCUS ON
3. Open your Muscle retrain map and find the directions on there
4. Write the muscles in under MUSCLES TO WORK ON
5. Sign and date it
6. Take a photo for record
7. Give original to client
Mastering the first Pilates hour teaches cueing pelvic curl by anchoring and flattening the shoulder blades, keeping the neck long, and achieving a neutral spine through hip and rib cues.
You have done your Pilates course (YEAY) and now you need a return on investment by teaching clients.
Know how to do the exercises - CHECK
Know how to teach the exercises - CHECK
Know how to assess a client - YOU SAY WHAT????
A Pilates orientation is a must for all new clients! In this session you introduce the principles of Pilates, let them feel where their core muscles are (well, the main core muscles as you are going to learn about 4 other cores in this course), how to breathe and then you get them moving so you can observe their movements and take notes on what you see.
Real learning only starts after your instructor course because it takes years to train your eye to know what you see and how to correct your client. Even experienced instructors (me included) have a moment where you look at a client, you see something is not quite right but you just can't seem to put your finger on it, therefor you will not know how to correct your client.
Your client's first session can be a make or break deal!
= They need feel heard - that you understand their needs.
= They need to feel safe and that Pilates will not be difficult in the beginning until the confidence start to show.
= They need to know that you know what you are doing and know what you are talking about so that you are worth their investment.
= And of course nerves! The client can smell that a mile away. Giving you away that you are a newly qualified instructor.
IT WILL BE MY HONOUR to be your first client! (unpaid of course :) Together we are going to assess my body to see what I'm doing wrong and which muscles should be trained in order to fix the movement.
This course will help you train your eye so we are SLOWLY going to work through 9 mat exercises you already know and this time, you will learn to look deeper. Not only how to correct the client in different situations but also what caused the body to do that in the first place! After this course you will be able to give knowledgeable and impressive feedback of what you observed during their orientation session.
