This course is a practically relevant course designed by a certified Energy Auditor and Professor with over 22 years of teaching and research experience.It is the outcome of teaching and engaging with undergraduate mechanical engineering and electrical engineering students the use of steam tables in classroom and with the deeper understanding of how students learn this interesting but difficult concept.

This course helps students in the following ways

1 Introduces students to the concepts of saturation temperature and saturation pressure and helps one appreciate why food cooks faster in pressure cooker and why boilers are operating at higher pressures

2 Introduces Students to the concept of quality of steam and helps them understand what is saturated water,wet steam,dry saturated steam and superheated steam.

3 Students get to learn what are steam tables and the different tables included in steam table copy

4 Students get to learn how to look for the properties like specific enthalpy specific volume and specific entropy from the steam tables both the saturation tables as well as superheated steam tables

5 Students after getting familiar with steam tables get to learn to apply these for real life engineering problems like analysis of steam generator .They are introduced to the concept of boiler efficiency and get to know how to calculate boiler efficiency

6 Students learn the thermal analysis of steam power plant and are introduced to Rankine thermodynamic cycle .They appreciate the significance of the role of thermodynamic cycle in analysing real life power plant
