Hello and Welcome to My Course!
I'm thrilled to have you here. Please know that I'm here to support your learning every step of the way. If there's anything I can do to make your journey easier, don't hesitate to reach out. Thank you, and let's get started!
In our everyday lives, we frequently run into situations where sharing is necessary. For instance, imagine you’re at a party with friends and you have a limited number of cupcakes to distribute. When someone asks, “How many should we hand out to each person?” it would be quite awkward to resort to counting on your fingers or using makeshift tools like sticks. Instead, having the ability to carry out long division mentally allows you to quickly and accurately calculate how many cupcakes each person can receive without embarrassment. Mastering division not only improves your mathematical skills but also provides you with the confidence to handle real-life scenarios efficiently. Can you think of another situation where mastering division would be useful?
Indeed, mastering division is crucial for effective sharing and problem-solving in everyday situations!
In this lecture, titled Long Division Vocabulary - Meet the Players, students will learn the names of the different "players" involved in long division. Understanding this vocabulary is crucial, as it will help students navigate through division problems by recognizing the role of each part. Furthermore, this knowledge will allow students to easily identify these "players" in future division problems.
In the lecture on Meet the Players, students learned the vocabulary necessary for long division. This follow-up lecture guarantees that they have absorbed the essential information about who the players are. Can they identify when a player is missing?
In this lecture, students will revisit and reinforce their understanding of the key terms used in Long Division, building on the concepts covered in the previous session.
In this lecture, students will learn how to begin the long division process by identifying which number goes inside the division sign and which stays outside. They will know which number to subtract from. They will also discover the key questions to ask themselves during the process and strategies for determining factors if they get stuck. For example, students can use their hands as a helpful tool to guide their work. Additionally, students will learn techniques for verifying their answers to ensure accuracy
Long division can be tricky for students of many levels. In this lecture, the instructor works alongside the students, asking them questions and breaking down each step as simply as possible to accommodate the varying paces at which students learn, ensuring that no one is left behind. Here, the instructor is solidifying previous lessons and gauging how much the students understand.
Please see Lecture 7 for the description.
In this lecture, the instructor highlights key terms in long division and explains how they contribute to formulating division problems. During the session, the instructor intentionally makes mistakes to challenge students. Their task is to identify these errors and explain why they are incorrect.
The purpose of this lecture is to help students verify their answers.
What layout comes to your mind when we talk about long division? This lecture explores another idea of long division!
In this lecture, students review a previous session on dividing fractions and learn how to tackle a new challenge in dividing fractions
In this Long Division course, students will master the fundamentals of long division, understanding why this process is necessary for their mathematical development. Students will also become attuned to the key concepts and steps of long division, including the names of the "team players" that make up the division process.
Throughout the course, students will learn to conduct long division step by step, identify and avoid common mistakes, and apply their knowledge to divide whole numbers, and fractions. They will develop techniques to challenge long division word problems to further enhance their understanding and problem-solving techniques.
Additionally, students will explore real-world applications of long division, discovering how it connects to other areas of mathematics and daily life. As they progress, they will cement their knowledge gains no matter their size, acknowledging every step in mathematics as a valuable milestone. Students will have the opportunity to reach out to the teacher with any long division-related questions and request personalized, detailed discussions of their individual assessment scores as needed, ensuring ongoing support and growth.
Welcome to the Long Division Course!
I look forward to seeing you in future courses, where you'll discover how this technique is applied in other areas of mathematics, and life in general.
