Each dance has its own basic step, different from the other dances. It is the foundation for that style and most of the other figures derive from it.
It's time to practice the basic step together, with music. If you feel confident enough, we've linked a cha cha cha playlist with the songs we usually use during our lessons. They are ordered from slow to fast, so you can take it one step at a time.
Dancing in couple may look easy, but it takes a bit of time and practice. We are going to show you some of the principles that stand behind dancing with a partner. However, don't stress too much about the technique. Dancing should be first of all FUN!
Now that you know how to do the Basic Step in Couple with the counts, you can start practicing with music.
If you still have difficulties with the basic step, don't worry. Many of our students get better when they learn this second figure, the New York.
Practice the New York together with the Basic Step. This can be performed in couple or alone.
Practice this small sequence with music. If you don't have a partner, you can practice alone. We've added our cha cha cha playlist again so if you feel you need more practice, you've got more tunes to dance to.
A great part of Latin dancing are turns. It's what makes the audience go WOW. In this lecture, we introduce you to turn by teaching you the Spot Turn. You will see later how we can develop it and give it a bit of flavor.
Follow us and practice the spot turn to the left and right with the music. For extra songs check the playlist we've added.
You've mastered the three most important steps of cha cha cha: the Basic Step, the New York and the Spot Turn. It's time now to put them into a fun choreography. We'll begin with the Alemana (a variation of the Spot Turn), which is the lady's turn.
Don't worry if you don't have a partner. You can still practice on your own.
It's time to turn the gentlemen.
Here's another variation for the Spot Turn with a nice finishing touch. We can now practice the entire choreography on the counts together.
Congrats! You've made it to the end of our course. We hope you've enjoyed it. Let's finish with a dance. We've added our playlist if you want more songs to practice to.
