After hitting publish on your video, the next 24-hours of its life are the most critical of all.
Your goal is to send as much traffic to this video as possible.
So make sure you are sharing it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media outlets you have.
If you have a mailing list, also make sure you are sending it out ASAP to gather the most traffic possible within the first day of the video being published.
This sends a message to the YouTube algorithm that you are bringing traffic from outside sources, thus improving the overall attraction of the video in YouTube’s eyes.

Sadly you can’t just pump out any old video and expect it to be a hit, you do actually need to create a plan and execute it with each video.
But how can you come up with great video ideas in the first place?
- Go to where people are fishing So many people use YouTube as a way to guide them through certain issues or tasks they have trouble with, so if you know what people are searching for it is a lot easier to create videos that will get a lot of traction.
- Similar channels within your niche Using similar YouTube channels you can narrow down on what content is working for others.
- Most popular styles of content on YouTube How to’s, Lists, Compilations, Reviews, Interviews, Case Studies, Guides/Tutorials, Vlogs/Personal and Gaming

If you are wanting to create a hit video each time, there is no doubt you will need to do a lot of research.
Plan ahead
- Make sure you are using the right tools to plan your videos in advanced. This can be your video idea, title, tags, thumbnail, description, etc.
YouTube search
- The YouTube search can be used in an incognito webpage to gather popular search terms when brainstorming video ideas.
Best YouTube Tools:
- TubeBuddy, VidIQ, MorningFame, Keywords Everywhere, RapidTags, Google Keyword Suggest, Better Way to Web and Google Trends.

You will not grow unless you commit to growing your channel. You will need to put in the work in order to see results.
By ‘work’ I don’t just mean posting videos. I mean posting videos, making sure they rank, making sure they are getting clicks, bringing in traffic from your other social media accounts, networking with other creators, etc.
There is a lot more work to put in other than just recording, editing and posting that video.

We judge books by their covers, as much as we would like to deny that. In order to draw a viewer in you need to create thumbnails that are just completely intriguing and hard to avoid. There are many free tools out there to create amazing thumbnails, but the best by far is Canva.com Canva not only provides free resources, but also provides free templates.

The biggest mistake I see nearly all YouTubers doing is not repurposing content at all.
It is so important to repurpose your content within playlists, on social media platforms and websites.
For example:
Let's say you have a few videos about camera reviews, computer reviews, editing software tutorials and speaking tutorials all in their own respective playlists.
You could easily repurpose 1 of each video and compile it into a ‘Get started on YouTube playlist’ which would draw in a whole new audience to your channel.
Repurposing content for your socials is another way to not only get your videos out there, but gives you more content to post in general to grow your other social media accounts.

After uploading a video, it is great to get into the habit of liking and commenting on your own video.
Viewers will then be more likely to click on the video as the like to dislike ratio is at 100%.
Commenting on your own video is a good way to ask for feedback or engage with your viewers.
It often gives you a space to possibly say something you missed in the video or even write out a call to action to like the video, subscribe or check out a related video you have previously posted.

It is SO important to grow your social media accounts in order to bring in a new audience from each platform.
Showing YouTube that you are able to bring in an audience outside of YouTube, the algorithm will then favour the video you are using to bring that audience in.
Thus resulting in more views and possibly more subscribers as well!

Cross promoting is a way to keep viewers watching either mid-way through a video, at the end or really at any point throughout the video.
You can effectively do this is 3 different ways
Cards
Allow you to pinpoint an exact time the audience is leaving your video so you have a chance of placing a card a few seconds before the viewer leaves. This gives them the option to continue watching your content, and staying on YouTube.
End Screens
Are great for when the video has ended, it allows you about 20 seconds to have an outro or even a pitch on what the viewer should watch next. It allows you to place videos and a subscribe button right in front of the viewer.
Description
You should always link related videos in the description. A lot of people read the description of a video to find out more about the video or creator. If you clearly label a few videos that are either popular or directly relate to the video they are currently watching they may leave said video and continue watching your other videos.

You need to know when your viewers are deciding to leave your videos.
This gives you the opportunity to possibly find patterns and what you can do to improve on some mistakes.
It also gives you an opportunity to throw down a card and push the viewer to another video of yours.
Sometimes even after studying your analytics, you may not completely understand why viewers are still not watching your videos all the way through.
It can be due to a few reasons, so I have compiled a list of reasons why your audience just is not sticking around.

By recording a mini-series, you give people something that they will need to finish. It is so hard for our brains to not want to continue a series or list, as we love to see the final results.

This is the MOST important aspect of any video besides the video itself.
You need to make sure you are optimizing your video with an unforgettable title, keyword related tags and a very informative description.
There are a few ways to achieve these 3 important aspects.
TubeBuddy (Tag research, see related videos tags and scores, etc.)
YouTube Search (Use an incognito webpage to search your topic to gather important keywords)
Comparing other videos within your niche (Comparing tags, titles and descriptions with videos that have a lot of traffic)

It is not as commonly known, but YouTube rewards creators who keep their audience on the platform.
By minimizing the amount of external links you provide within a video description, the more the algorithm rewards you.
Instead of linking to other websites, try to link to related videos about the same topic.
It is okay to link out of YouTube, just don’t have a description full of other websites as this will work negatively for you.

It is important to get your audience engaged with your video and topic, but this also works in return when you watch another creator's videos.
When you upload your own video, make sure you are leaving a comment and pinning it to the top. To get viewers to engage, possibly ask a question or ask for suggestions for the next video.
When you are viewing another creator's video and you are genuinely enjoying it or have an opinion on something, make sure you comment your thoughts in a positive and not a self-promoting way.

As humans, we need to be told what to do or at least there is a larger percentage of people that do. This is why call to actions are such an important aspect of growing on YouTube.
I would suggest placing a call to action at the start after you have introduced the video topic and given a little teaser, and one at the very end of the video during your outro.
It is possible to have too many calls to actions in a single video. If you give someone too much to do, nothing will get done. So limit two calls to action per video.

Aside from sharing your videos on your other social media accounts (Like I hope you are doing!), you can also find small Facebook groups, subreddits and forums to share your content within.
Just be careful, many of these places have rules and do not promote spamming. So make sure you read through some of the rules before joining and sharing your content.

If your video includes a product at all, do tweet at the creators or company responsible for said product.
Whether it is a review, guide, tutorial, anything. Companies love to see this as it is a free promotion for them and you might even get a little free promotion for yourself through a retweet or repost.

Don’t just have the mindset that you are building a YouTube channel, you are building a brand, so make it look like one.
There are so many websites nowadays that offer amazing graphics at such a reasonable and sometimes cheap price.
I mainly use canva.com but you could also check out fiverr.com, upwork.com or even 99designs.com.
There are also many freelance graphic designers that have their own personal portfolio, so check out twitter and facebook to see if anyone has any recommendations.

I have touched on this method slightly in a few of my videos, but the ideal content strategy is to solve peoples issues before they know it is one.
The top video content that is viewed on YouTube is How to’s, guides and tutorials and they vary from software, to manual labor, from gardening to painting, from gaming to health and beauty. You get it, there are a lot of things out there to learn.
Within your niche, what are some of the things you didn’t know when you started? Could you make some videos on them?

Adsense is the only way you can make money directly through YouTube. What Adsense does is it places targeted ads on or around your video in order to get clicks on said ads.
This in turn earns the creator money depending on how many views they have (how many views the ad has had).
Adsense is the hardest way to earn money when you are a small creator, but for big creators it can be their only way of income.
1,000 YouTube views is approximately worth $1, but that also does vary depending on the CPM (Cost per mile/thousand)
There is a great article on medium that dives in really deep about YouTube revenue, I highly suggest you check it out.

Affiliate links are directed to websites that have a physical product to purchase.
The most common affiliate link would be Amazon. When a user clicks on an amazon link, that link stays active for 24 hours. That means that even if the user doesn’t buy the item you linked to them but purchases something else within the 24 hours, you get a percentage of that purchase.
There are many other websites out there that offer affiliate links and you could really narrow it down to your niche. Some websites might only offer affiliate links to quite large influencers, but it is always worth a shot if you have the right audience.

Sponsorships are similar to affiliate links, but are an ongoing relationship with a company.
A lot of the time you will get paid to use or wear said products and promote them on your social media accounts.
Most sponsorships for smaller creators result in free products for you to promote, and no payment. But hey, you have to start somewhere.
There are heaps of companies that offer sponsorships, but it really depends on your content type and niche.
For example, GFUEL sponsors many large twitch streamers and esport associations, while Gymshark sponsors many instagram fitness influencers.

Influencer marketing is a weird combo, it includes affiliate marketing and sponsorships but also sometimes audience reach.
If you have quite a large personal brand you could use that to your advantage and setup affiliate marketing to earn a percentage of sales, you can apply for sponsorships or even paid sponsorships to promote products and services, but you could also sell ad space on your page.
Many influencers have thousands if not hundreds and thousands of followers that they reach daily, which is why many of them sell space on their instagram pages or stories for a set fee for a set amount of time.
Next time you are scrolling through Instagram, Facebook or Twitter keep an eye on that large profiles you follow because you might see a sneaky ad placement. But this time you will know exactly what it is.

Now, paid content is still quite new to the content creator world, but it is definitely not going anywhere.
With the YouTube adpocalypse came a tsunami of paid content options in a great percentage of all creators on the platform, which is understandable as YouTube basically axed any ad earning potential with new policies.
Paid content is a great way to earn a monthly income if you have something to offer your audience.
Many creators offer early access videos or even run series outside of YouTube that only the paying subscribers get to watch. But, many creators also offer physical products like merchandise or signed postcards as an incentive to support their favourite creators.
There are many ways you could use paid content to your advantage, heck even YouTube has a paid ‘subscription’ type option now too. But you can always use Patreon.com if you would prefer to deter away from YouTube when it comes to your financials.
