Apply gradient masks with the gradient tool to even lighting in a restoration, using white and black masks and curves adjustments to brighten faces, darken coats, and refine highlights.
Improve subject separation by creating contrast with a brighter background using curves, masks, and gradients, painting with white to reveal brightness, then darken clothing for a sharper focus.
Master color correction for old and black-and-white photos using the recolor adjustment to even out distorted colors, adjust saturation and hue for a subtle or sepia look.
Learn advanced color correction with the gradient map to blend shadows and highlights, customize colors using HSL sliders, and explore endless color combinations, including presets.
Turn the gradient map adjustment into presets for quick color corrections with a single click, saving three options: subtle sepia, warmer sepia, and blue shadows with warm highlights.
Learn to match a photo's original colors in Affinity Photo by using gradient maps and curves, plus cloning with the clone brush and soft transitions to preserve shading.
Discover why you can't add color to grayscale photos in affinity photo and fix it by converting the image format to rgb eight, enabling the recolor adjustment.
Learn to reduce noise with the denoise filter, balance luminance and luminance detail to preserve textures, then sharpen and adjust curves to restore contrast in old images.
Mask the de-noise filter to selectively reduce noise, preserving subject detail while smoothing the background, using an inverted mask, brush strokes, and controlled brush flow.

Learn how to reduce textures in a photo using the dust and scratches filter to soften texture while painting with a brush to preserve eyes, hair, and lips.
Apply dust and scratches reduction and texture controls, then sharpen with a high pass filter and soft light blend mode, painting with black and white to restore facial detail.
Plan to restore wedding photo: crop out tape and blank background, clean with inpainting and clone brushes, adjust lighting with curves, apply gradient map for warm highlights and cool shadows.
Clean up the image by inpainting blemishes and dots, keep the plan on top, and use the clone brush to smooth transitions and faces, aiming for cleaner results before lighting.
Apply a curves adjustment to fix lighting by adjusting the histogram's black and white points, then use an inverted masked brush to darken shadows and refine features.
Apply a gradient map to balance color, with shadows in blue and highlights in warm tones. Increase midtone saturation and refine areas with targeted lighting to preserve the original look.
Learn how to reduce noise in photos using the dust and scratches filter, compare denoise, adjust radius, and selectively restore detail on the subjects.
Create a pixel layer restoration plan to crop, cleanup, and enhance lighting, colors, and noise. Apply the workflow with curves adjustments and warmth to highlights and shadows.
Master photo restoration techniques by learning inpainting and clone brush workflows to clean up a large rip, blend edges, sample colors, and reconstruct the collar and surrounding details.
Fix lighting in Affinity Photo using a curves adjustment to increase contrast by moving black and white points and lifting the spline for more light, with color adjustments coming next.
Adjust colors via a gradient map and presets, tweak the midpoint, and optionally vary layer opacity to balance hues; this artistic step precedes a quick noise fix.
Apply the denoise filter in affinity photo to soften subtle noise by increasing luminance, while preserving facial detail; compare the before and after for a natural result.
Plan and colorize a black-and-white photo by cropping and inpainting first, then apply coordinated, muted tones for skin, hair, lips, and clothing on a warm sepia background.
Use reference images from free sites like Pexels, Pixabay, and Unsplash to sample skin tones, hair, lips, and color palettes in Affinity Photo for recoloring.
Apply a gradient map to color the skin by adjusting shadows, midtones, and highlights from the palette, then invert the mask and paint with white to reveal the colors.
Refine facial skin with recolor adjustments to add redness, subtle saturation, and variation; invert and paint with low flow, erase excess, and group layers as skin for a before‑and‑after comparison.
Use recolor adjustments to tint the lips, whiten the teeth and eyes with a subtle orange hue, add eye rim redness, and brown the iris, then group the face details.

Welcome to your Photo Restoration Masterclass! In this course, you'll learn everything you need to restore old photos.
We'll start by preparing your photos—scanning them onto your computer, cropping, and straightening.
Next, we'll move on to cleanup. Using the Inpainting Brush and Clone Brush, you'll learn how to easily repair tears and scratches that have accumulated over time.
Once cleanup is done, we'll focus on lighting. Old photos often become dull and faded, so I'll show you multiple techniques to improve the lighting and restore contrast.
After lighting, we'll tackle color. We'll begin with basic color correction, then move on to fixing more challenging color issues.
We'll also cover small but important details, like reducing noise and removing unwanted textures from your photos.
Then comes one of my favorite parts of photo restoration: recoloring! You'll learn how to add color to black and white images to make them truly come alive.
Finally, we’ll wrap up with several practice projects. These will help you reinforce everything you've learned throughout the course.
This course comes with all the example images that are shown in the videos. That way, you can easily follow along with the tutorials.
