created Markdown because:Writing in HTML was too complicated (tags everywhere).
Word and rich-text formats were not human-readable in plain text.
He wanted something you could read and write as plain text, but still render as formatted content.

Markdown: # Hello World **This is bold**
Much cleaner, right?

Markdown is a lightweight markup language used to format plain text. It was created so that text can be written in a simple, human-readable way, and easily converted into HTML or other rich formats.
Instead of clicking formatting buttons (like in Word), you use symbols.
Examples:

## Heading 2 → Heading 2
**bold** → bold
*italic* → italic
- Item → a bullet list

So, a Markdown file is just a .md text file that keeps formatting simple and portable.

Obsidian is a note-taking and knowledge management app built around Markdown.
Here’s how it works:Notes are Markdown files
Every note you create in Obsidian is saved as a .md file on your computer.
→ This means your notes are future-proof and you own your data.Vault system
A vault is just a folder where all your Markdown notes are stored.
Obsidian treats this folder as a database of interconnected notes.Bidirectional linking
You can link notes with [[Note Title]].Example: If you type [[Philosophy]], Obsidian will link to the note named Philosophy.
This creates a knowledge graph (a network of your ideas).
Markdown preview
In edit mode, you see the Markdown symbols (**bold**).
In preview mode, you see the formatted text (bold).
You can also embed images, PDFs, or even other notes.
Plugins & customization
Obsidian extends Markdown with features like:Tables of contents
