In this exciting course, you will learn to create a stunning scrollable landing page using only React Three Fiber! We’ll cover my design process and explore choosing ideal 3D models to be used in your projects.
We’ll then transition into React Three Fiber creative development, guiding you through each phase of the project. You’ll start with a simple scene for loading your model, and explore creating a beautiful DNA scene with Particles, and MeshTransmissionMaterial for a realistic glass effect and dynamic camera movement.
Finally, we will learn how to convert this experience into a scrollable landing page, using GSAP ScrollTrigger and the key concepts of CSS manipulation to achieve a scrollable experience, incorporating GSAP Timeline, and mixing 3D and 2D HTML for dynamic interface animations. This course is using plain Threejs/React Three Fiber and no additional/custom renderers are been used.
This course is perfect for anyone already familiar with the React environment and online coding tools. It serves as a step-by-step guide to how the project was built, giving you an inside look into the entire process. With the provided source code and a solid understanding of each stage of development, you’ll have the tools and flexibility to modify the project to fit your own needs and style. However, since this is an advanced course, it’s not a traditional, component-by-component walkthrough where I build each element manually. Instead, the focus is on the techniques and strategies for creating interactive 3D experiences with React Three Fiber.
Please note that, as this is primarily a React Three Fiber-focused course, I won’t be covering CSS and HTML fundamentals in detail. It’s assumed that students are already familiar with these aspects so we can dive straight into the 3D aspects. This structure allows you to gain deeper insight into the essentials of creating impressive 3D web pages while using your existing knowledge of CSS and HTML to complete the design and styling independently.
See you soon!
In this first lesson, I’ll walk you through my creative process for ideating and designing a 3D experience. We’ll look at how to research references, brainstorm, and transform initial ideas into a concept ready for development. I’ll show you how I collect visual inspiration using video references and break down my approach to setting a unique direction for a project. By the end of this lesson, you’ll understand how to think creatively when designing immersive web experiences and have a clear concept for your landing page.
Now it’s time to bring our ideas to life with code. I’ll introduce a simple boilerplate in React Three Fiber that we’ll use as the foundation of our project. We’ll explore how to transform this basic setup into the custom design we created in the previous lesson. You’ll learn how to set up the core components, structure your scene, and start building an interactive 3D layout. This hands-on session will give you the skills to shape your initial design concept into a tangible web experience.
In this lesson, we’ll explore how to find quality 3D models for free and integrate them into our project. I’ll share my best tips for selecting models that suit our design, ensuring they enhance the experience rather than slow down the page. Once we have our model, I’ll walk you through the process of importing it into React Three Fiber and making any adjustments needed to fit it perfectly into our scene. By the end of this lesson, you’ll know how to find, import, and work with 3D models in your own projects.
To add another level of interactivity, we’ll incorporate a custom particle system into our landing page. I’ll provide a versatile particle component that you can use in future projects as well. We’ll dive into the parameters of this component, learning how to adjust particle colors, size, speed, and motion to fit our project’s design. This lesson will show you how particle systems can add energy and movement to a 3D scene, giving you full control over their look and feel.
Here, we’ll take our 3D scene to the next level with post-processing effects. Using React Three Fiber’s built-in tools, we’ll apply effects like Bloom for glow, Depth of Field for focus, and color correction to bring out the best in our scene. We’ll explore how each effect works, tuning the parameters to create a balanced, visually appealing result. By the end of this lesson, you’ll understand how post-processing can elevate the realism and polish of your 3D projects.
In this lesson, we’ll add an element of visual depth by creating a 3D text element that appears behind our main model. This text will serve as a striking backdrop, highlighting our scene’s depth and helping emphasize our particle effects. You’ll learn how to use React Three Fiber’s text component, adjusting the parameters to create a semi-transparent, glass-like effect. This technique will give your scene a unique touch and further enhance its immersive quality.
A complex 3D project requires careful attention to performance. In this lesson, I’ll share the optimization techniques I use to keep interactions smooth and loading times fast. We’ll go over methods for managing memory, selectively loading assets, and fine-tuning post-processing settings to avoid overloading the browser. You’ll learn how to balance visual quality with performance, ensuring that your 3D projects run seamlessly on different devices.
With our 3D elements complete, we’ll start adding the main content of our page using HTML and CSS. I’ll guide you through creating distinct sections with pure CSS, showing you how to style the content and set up the page to scroll smoothly. This lesson will give you a solid foundation in integrating HTML and CSS with your 3D components, ensuring a cohesive design that feels natural to navigate.
To bring motion to our project, we’ll integrate GSAP and configure our app for seamless animations. I’ll show you how to set up GSAP within React and create a reusable animation component. We’ll explore how GSAP can add dynamic touches to different elements, creating a cohesive, fluid experience as users scroll. You’ll leave this lesson with a powerful toolset to animate any React project using GSAP.
In our final lesson, we’ll use GSAP ScrollTrigger to synchronize 2D and 3D animations, making them respond perfectly to scroll interactions. You’ll learn how to set up immediateRender, adjust timing, and align your animations to trigger at the right moments. This lesson will bring everything together, allowing you to control how your animations interact and create a stunning final experience for users.
