Your Reticular Activating System (RAS)—the brain’s internal “filter” and attention gatekeeper—screens a massive flood of sensory data.
The human brain receives roughly 11 million bits of information per second, according to cognitive scientists.
But consciously, we can only process about 40–50 bits per second—a tiny fraction.
That means the RAS filters out over 99.999% of incoming data—letting through only what it believes is relevant to your goals, beliefs, or dominant focus. Thus, we see what we say, so focus on more and your RAS will show you more.

This course translates Ralph Waldo Emerson’s essay “Compensation” into a practical, physics-infused framework for growth. Emerson argued that reality is governed by an exact accounting—every action has a corresponding effect, every gain carries a counterbalance, and nothing is truly lost if you convert it. We operationalize that insight as a performance principle: ensure you gain every time you lose.
Using the language of mechanics—force, reaction, inertia, momentum, and compounding—we map Emerson’s moral calculus to a repeatable process for progress under pressure. You’ll learn how to turn setbacks into stored energy, delays into compounding returns, and apparent losses into leverage.
