In this video Mandy talks about her journey to the Science of Human Behaviour and her near 2 year decade goal of bringing the science of how people learn, to parents to help them become Parent Warriors.
Mandy found her way to the science of Human Behaviour and has spent nearly 2 decades teaching her own daughters and others, when her second daughter, Juju, was diagnosed with Autism. She gave up her job as an Accountant and studied to become a Behaviour Scientist to teach children and to help parents with parenting challenges - from minor challenges like whining and tantrums, to complex problems such as sleeping and eating difficulties.
Mandy sets out how she's going to incorporate fun and motivation to help you become the best parent you can be. Get ready to be empowered as a parent and become a Parent Warrior!
As you go through the Beginner's Battleground, you will be collecting points along the way to get to a total of 200 points and your first MMPT badge, the Blue Badge, which will get you access to a private Facebook Group to join other Parent Warriors on their quest to be powerful parents and CEO's of their families.
In this video you'll earn 30 more Warrior Points on your way to your first MMPT badge, the Blue Badge, as you complete the MMPT Intake Assessment to help you identify your parenting goals.
This video has you complete the MMPT Baseline assessment to find out what you know and what you don't know about Behaviour Science. It also introduces you to Warrior Terms 1, 2 and 3 on your way to learning 20 Warrior Terms.
In this video you get to clarify the type of parent or parents you want to be by looking at your values and prioritising them into Very Important, Important and Not So Important and get clear on the values you want to pass onto your kids. By downloading the resource and seeing which ones are most meaningful and important to you, you get to clarify those in identifying target behaviours that align with those rules. At the end of this video you get to tick off in Checklist 1 all the tasks you've already completed on your way to becoming a Parent Warrior.
In this video, Mandy teaches you how to get clear with your kids on household rules as you develop the Family Rulebook. This is like having a set of standard operating procedures in your household so kids are clear on what are "yes behaviours", "no behaviours", "sometimes behaviours" and "no, not now, not ever behaviours".
In this video, Mandy teaches you how to define goals for your children that are SMART Goals - or specific, measurable and time frame specific goals - which stands in the adage that "you can't improve what you can't measure." In this video you'll learn how to define goals and incorporate them into the MMPT Family Plan.
Learn to be a Parent Warrior by measuring behaviour of your children and thereby determining if all your Parent Warrioring is improving or worsening the situation.
Be the parent that is able to say:
1. My child used to wake 5 times per night, and now sleeps through the night;
2. My child used to tantrum for 20 minutes a day, and now tantrums less than 20 minutes per week;
3. My child used to read at 80 words per minute and now reads at 155 words per minute;
4. My child used to do 0 minutes of timed practice of math facts per day and now completes 3 minutes of timed practice today at a rate of 40 correct math facts per minute.
You can't improve what you can't measure.
In this video, we have an introduction to Frequency (or count over time) of behaviour, which Dr Skinner discovered is the most sensitive measure of performance and determines if behaviour will continue in the future. If a child is increasing their frequency over time, we can see they are learning.
In the follow on course, the Adventurer's Assent, you will learn to create these learning charts yourself and be able to empower yourself in how to teach your child with accurate and measurable outcomes. This will allow you to save time and money by doing things with your child that you can prove are effective and in line with your goals for them.
Imagine that? If you could go to the Speech Pathologist and say "I measured the rate of requests my child is making and there is no improvement, what can I do to get more requests?" Or, "My child has been in your tutoring program for 6 months (or your school's before school phonics program) but they are still only reading at 30 words per minute and I know he needs to be reading at 150 words per minute?"
Life changing! You are becoming a parent that can assess the quality of intervention and ensure your child makes improved performance over time instead of just guessing.
Come with my on this journey into behaviour science and measurement such that one day a professional is going to say to you "Have you completed the 6 Pillars of Parenting? I better lift my game!"
In this video, you'll learn the key to changing your child's behaviour, the Core Principles of the Science of Human Behaviour. Mandy identifies 6 key principles, Reinforcement, Deceleration, Differential Reinforcement, Extinction and the Extinction Burst, Shaping and the 4 functions of behaviour. Armed with these principles, you'll be able to navigate changing your child's behaviour as well as assessing what is causing your child's behaviour.
Mandy also talks about Task Analyses and how to break down bigger skills into smaller skills.
She sets out what a Parent Warrior does when addressing challenging behaviour in their child:
1. Clearly defines the behaviour
2. Takes data (frequency being the most sensitive measure of behaviour)
3. Records data on the MMPT data tracking sheet and uses the ABC diary to look at the Why of the behaviour
4. Designs an intervention
5. Analyses data
6. Uses shaping and differential reinforcement to reduce barrier behaviours and strengthen breakthrough behaviours
This is where you get to assess how far you've come as a Parent Warrior and how much more practice you need to learn the Core Principles of Behaviour. Continued practice on your SAFMEDs and Practice Sheets and you'll be mastering the tools of being a Parent Warrior.
You deserve a reward! This is Quick Win 1 thanks to Professor Premack. You might have heard this call a First Then contingency, or the Grandma Principle - first eat your peas, then you can have your icecream!
Get ready to become a Parent Warrior!
The 6 Pillars of Parenting, with videos and practical resources to help transform you as a parent, gives you tools to build motivation and resilience in your children, and was developed by Mandy as a result of her transformative journey with her own children.
Mandy has been training parents to teach skills and to address challenging behaviours in their children for nearly 20 years. Mandy found her way to the science of Human Behaviour after her second daughter was diagnosed with autism at 22 months of age. As Mandy found her way to effective procedures, she discovered evidence based methodologies to deal with behaviours in children such as resistance to feedback, tantrums and behaviours that prevent parents from being the best parents they can be.
The Core Principles of Behaviour are proven principles on how to teach effectively, reduce interruptive behaviours and build skills in children to allow them to take on feedback, to push through difficult experiences and to develop skills to allow them to succeed.
This course is Level 1, the Beginner's Battleground, the first in a series of videos, where you'll earn Warrior Points on your quest to become what Mandy calls, a Parent Warrior. You will graduate from this course with a Blue Badge on your way to gain a series of badges that results in your ultimate Purple Badge where you gain access to the Mandy Mason Parenting Academy.
The Blue Badge opens up access to the MMPT Private Facebook Group with additional resources and the Ultimate Purple Badge allows you access to a full suite of materials and training videos as part of the Mandy Mason Parenting Academy.
