"Hi everyone! I'm Paige Piskin, an augmented reality makeup and character artist with a passion for designing AR filters across various social platforms."
For the past three years, I've been immersed in a world of augmented reality, I've made over 300 effects across platforms that have been shared over a billion times and have been seen over 220 billion times. Becoming an AR creator has transformed my life. I now create lenses full time for brands, and travel the world speaking at events in AR, AI, advertising and disruptive tech.
Connecting Through AR:
A highlight of this journey has been connecting with AR enthusiasts worldwide. The sense of community is heartwarming. Traveling to share our passions has been an incredible experience. My sustainable career continues to evolve as the industry grows.
Augmented Reality's Promise:
The convergence of augmented and virtual reality has birthed mixed reality experiences. The potential is vast, especially for aspiring creators. Brands are eager to explore AR effects, and countless unique styles deserve to shine. Whether you're a digital artist, character designer, makeup artist, sculptor, or painter, the AR space has a place for you.
Starting the AR Adventure:
In this video, I'll delve into the software tools I use and how I got started. Entering this field doesn't demand prior 2D or 3D experience. Diverse entry points exist.
Some creators excel in 3D despite lacking prior digital art experience, and vice versa. Some began AR with no background, growing into remarkable artists. Proficiency in 2D or 3D isn't a requirement; platforms like Lens Studio provide templates that make it really simple to get started with assets you can use in your projects if you don't have experience with 2D or 3D design.
3D Software:
For effects similar to mine, I rely on Blender, a versatile 3D modeling program. While specialized tools like Cinema 4D and ZBrush exist, Blender suffices for my process!
Additional devices:
iPad users can explore nomad Sculpt for mobile sculpting, while Gravity Sketch offers virtual sculpting with VR headsets.
Fashioning Creativity:
Fashion enthusiasts can dive into Marvelous Designer and CLO 3D for 2D drawing and painting within clothing design.
Artistic Evolution:
A decade ago, I started with Photoshop, learning mostly on my own. Online classes honed my skills. For iPad owners, Procreate is excellent, especially for textures like makeup.
The Power of Normal Maps:
Normal maps bring depth to textures. They're crucial for realism, elevating elements like raised glitter. Substance Painter is great, but you can start with Procreate or Photoshop.
Exploration Is Key:
Lens Studio, Blender, Gravity Sketch, nomad Sculpt, Procreate, Photoshop, and Substance Painter are my main tools. But the real essence lies in exploring and experimenting. Start small, perhaps with 3D models or face chart stickers.
The AR Journey Awaits:
Embark on your AR journey. I'm excited to share more in future videos. Stay tuned for more insights and experiences!
If it's your first time using lens studio, you're going to want to watch this video so you can get acquainted with the interface before jumping into the rest of the workshops. In each workshop, we'll cover many different types of features and I'll touch on more of the interface details.

Face Morph Template:
step-by-step tutorial for creating a face morph filter using the face morph template in Lens Studio:
Open Lens Studio and search for the "face morph" template.
Click on the face morph template to open the project file.
Inside the project, you'll find three options: character example, simple face mesh, and face mesh example with face morphing.
Select the character example and explore the options for transforming your face into a character. You can also use the eyes from this template for creating 3D eyes for your characters.
If you want to customize your own face, go to Blender and open the face mesh asset from the Lens Studio website.
Use the sculpting tools in Blender to make adjustments to the eyes, nose, and lips. You can use the snake hook brush to resize and reshape the features.
Export the customized face mesh as an FBX file and save it.
Go back to Lens Studio and click on the mesh in the face mesh example to update the face morph.
In the face mesh edit blend shape, right-click on face mesh and select it. Then click the plus sign to import your custom 3D object.
Load your face mesh file into the project. You'll see the updated character with your customizations.
To add more dramatic effects, such as face stretching or face liquify, click the plus sign and select the desired effect from the face effects menu.
Adjust the effect by moving the dots or circles on the face to modify specific points or areas.
You can duplicate effects and place them on different parts of the face to create various features.
Experiment with different combinations of face stretch, face morph, and liquify to create unique character looks.
Remember to check and adjust the mesh options in the face mesh example section. You can choose which parts of the face are cut out or included.
Additionally, you can use expression multiplier to enhance the facial expressions of your characters.
Test and refine your character filter until you're satisfied with the result.
Have fun creating your own characters and share your creations with others.
That's it! Enjoy using the face morph template in Lens Studio to create exciting character transformations.
