Herbs are our allies. If you've ever eaten pizza with basil on top, drank mint tea after dinner or sprinkled parsley on your potato salad, then you are participating in the ancient tradition of using herbs to enhance the health benefits and digestibility of your food. Herbs augment the flavor of what we eat, they support our overall health and wellness on a daily basis. In this course, you're going to learn how to grow your own herbs and most importantly, use them in magical recipes.
Growing your own herbs can seem too much unnecessary work. You can buy them online or in your health food store, so why the hustle? Not really. If you buy herbs online, you can't be sure about the quality of the purchased herbs. Have they been harvested sustainably? Have they been dried and stored properly? We might go even further - what was the emotional state of the person while harvesting, preparing and packing the herbs? Whether you believe in the energy infused by plants or not, these are important things to consider. While growing your own, your plants become your allies. There is anecdotal evidence (and my experience as well), that some herbs pop up from the ground exactly when you need them.
Take a peak into our local garden center! As a weekly customer, I'm fascinated by all things gardening - but you probably know that by now. Remember, when buying your plants, always make sure they are healthy and thriving, check for possible diseases and a thriving root system.
Whether you're planting tomatoes or parsley, the activity is somewhat similar. You'll need a good soil, water, good quality seeds and light.

Fresh, dried, frozen...what herbs should you use? Although there's nothing more refreshing than smelling fresh mint, fresh herbs are not available all the time, unless you are using aeroponics ( section 5). Especially in autumn and winter, dried herbs provide wonderful benefits and can fight some common ailments such as cold, cough and flu.
Moon gardening and companion planting are one of the basic principles of biodynamic gardening, a principle I use in my garden. The power of the moon can be used not only to increase your garden yields but also to know the best time to forage for herbs and fungi.

This recipe is very versatile depending on what greens the garden provides. The basic recipe involves greens of 1 leek, finely chopped, 2 cups of different greens (kale, dandelion, spinach, chickweed, oregano, basil, parsley etc.), 8 eggs, pinch of salt and olive oil for the pan. I like to serve these with sweet peas pesto - a combination of sweet peas, Parmesan cheese, salt, pine nuts, garlic and olive oil. For plenty of recipes, including a recipe for pesto, sign up for my courses Edible Garden, Edible Forest or From the Garden to the Table.

Why making your own incense? As I previously mentioned, plants absorb the energy of people who work with them. For a powerful ritual, a homemade incense can enhance the magic you're working on, not to mention the intention you can put into the incense itself while making it. For this incense you'll need 1 tsp of marshmallow root, 1 tablespoon of rose petals and 1 tablespoon of tulsi. All herbs should be powdered. Add water gradually. Let dry. Use as a regular incense.

Growing your own is like printing your own, money, they say. With the words of Jules Dervaes: ''Growing food (and herbs, for that matter) has become the most radical of acts. By the process of directly working in harmony with Nature we do the one thing most essential to change the world. We change ourselves.'' In this course, you're going to learn how to grow your own herbs indoors and outdoors and how to use them in magical recipes. I will guide you from the seed to the plant and to the table. We will take a peek into my herbal garden, the forest nearby, visit the local garden center and finally, use herbs in magical recipes. The information in this course will also involve the basics of using essential oils as these are a wonderful way how to further promote health. The course is divided into sections.
