Magic For Kids Level 1

The invisible ball is a hilarious magic trick using a paper bag.  This lecture demonstrates the trick and shows you how to make it funny.

Coin magic is the heart of close up magic.  It can be done anywhere!  This lecture demonstrates a standard trick using a coin such as a quarter and anything you could call a "magic wand," like a pencil or straw. 

We will practice the moves for both the coin and the wand together.  Practicing over and over is what will make your performance smooth and polished.  Follow along with me and then practice on your own.  Be sure to download the PDF with patter for this trick.

Here we move to a more advanced version of coin manipulation, but it's something anyone can learn.  I will demonstrate this trick from beginning to end, so you know how it should look and what to say during the routine.

In this lecture, we will practice the trick together.  Remember not to call this the "coin on the head trick."  That's part of the secret!  The audience will never guess that the coin is on your head.  The patter that goes along with the trick is included here as a downloadable PDF file.

Rubber bands can be fun and amazing!  This trick shows you one way to fool your audience into thinking your rubber band is a little friend who can hear your voice.  Watch me perform the trick and you will get ideas for your own show.

Here we will go over the way the rubber band needs to be manipulated.  You'll get a close-up demonstration how to stretch the rubber band across your hand and hide it.  You should follow along with me and try to get the hang of it.  Downloadable patter is included here so you have a script to follow when you're ready to perform.

Now that you've seen one rubber band trick, let's build on that idea.  Here are a couple more tricks you can do with rubber bands that will leave your friends scratching their heads and wondering, "how is it done?"  Watch carefully as I perform these tricks.

Now we will practice jumping rubber bands together.  Get your rubber bands ready and follow along with me.  Together we will do the rubber band jumps repeatedly so you can practice on your own.  You must really be good at this one to fool the audience.  The patter is included so you have some ideas what to say when performing this trick.

This is a bit more practice we can do together to perform rubber band tricks.

Two Little Birds is a trick that relies on being able to recite a short, easy poem.  Watch me show you how fun this trick can be.  You will be amazed at the way the audience is fooled by something so simple.

Here we are going to practice the main aspect of this trick together.  Switching fingers!  You will need to practice making movements with different fingers quickly.  After watching this video and practicing on your own, you'll be able to do the trick all by yourself.  The poem and patter is included here as a downloadable PDF.

Some magicians make their entire living on card tricks!  Every magician knows at least one, if not several, good card tricks.  Playing cards are the root of so many tricks that we are going to spend some time getting to know the deck.  Watch as I go over the suits and the difference between face and number cards.

We are going to practice knowing your playing cards.  After following along with this video, you should practice with the help of a grown-up.  In order to perform great card tricks, you must be able to recognize and name each and every card in the deck.  Once you get the basic idea, naming all of them will come easily.  Attached here is a PDF file with some notes about playing cards that may help some of you.

Here's are card trick that uses a fun little story.  Who doesn't like hearing stories?  This is a great crowd pleaser.  You'll see me perform the trick and explain how it works.

Get ready to practice The Four Bank Robbers!  This is one of the harder but more interesting tricks in Level 1.  You are ready for it!  Follow along with me to practice, then spend some time practicing on your own.  Don't try to demonstrate the trick until you're sure you are ready.  The patter is included in the attached PDF.
