Description

Class 1 Swirling Gliding Belly Dance Movement

"Today we'll work with gliding and swirling footwork, and the type of fluid unhurried movement that we often associate with rumba-type rhythm in bellydance music. You often see this movement in lyrical entrance pieces, or in dancing with the veil, American Cabaret style. When you learn veil dancing, most of the time you learn a veil move or trick and then layer it on some footwork in a choreography. So you end up remembering only veil moves and supporting them with simple footwork that is not sophisticated enough to stand on its own. In this class we'll try to make this swirling, gliding footwork interesting enough that it looks like full-fledged dancing without the veil. Then we'll add the veil."

Class 2 Lyrical Belly Dance Combinations / Mini-Choreography

Four lyrical combinations falling into a mini-choreography to work on pacing, fluid motion, and stage showmanship. Neon also discusses the ways your costuming affects your movement. Music: Pharaonic Passion by Beata and Horacio Cifuentes "Belly dance songs are often constructed of pieces with different rhythms and different mood. And as a dancer, when you hear a switch in tempo or mood, you should seamlessly flow into a different dance mode too. It’s good to have a stash of combinations in your auto-pilot dance vocabulary that you could just bust out the moment you hear a particular mood or mode coming. Today we’ll work with one of these moods - lyrical."
