英語のリスニングレベルアップ: 英語のリスニングスキルを磨いていきましょう。

私は英会話教師として2004年から日本で英会話を教えています。その経験から、多くの生徒が同じ問題を抱えていることに気付きました。日本の学校では文法や語彙を学ぶことはできますが、コミュニケーションの練習の機会はあまりありません。そのため、ネイティブスピーカーが自然な英語で話しても、学校の教科書で学んだものと違うので、理解できないといった生徒をたくさん見てきました。そのような問題を解決するために、このコースを設計しています。

本コースでは、自然でネイティブな英語を使用した一連のストーリーを聞いていただきます。各ストーリーには4つの動画を盛り込みました。最初の動画では、ストーリーを聞く前に10個のリスニング問題を出します。これは、ストーリーを聞きながら集中するためのヒントとなります。問題はレッスン教材のマークシートに書かれているので、印刷してストーリーを聞きながら問題を見ることができます。

2番目の動画では、リスニングクイズを行います。最初の動画で出てきた10個の問題を再び出題しますが、今度はA、B、Cの3つの選択肢を提示し、数秒間で答えをマークシートに記入していただきます。回答後、ストーリーの一部を再生して答えを聞くことができます。

3番目の動画では、ストーリーで出てきた単語の学習にフォーカスします。役立つ単語や難しい単語を説明し、発音の練習や例文の試し読みを行います。

最後４番目の動画ではストーリーで使用したフレーズを見ていきます。再度意味を把握し、リスニング＆リピートの例文で練習することができます。そして、次のストーリーに進みます。

このコースを終えるころには、リスニングスキルが向上し、実際のネイティブスピーカーの英語を理解することに対して、自信を持てるレベルに上達していることでしょう。

ストーリーはさまざまなトピックで構成されており、教科書の英語ではなく、実際にネイティブスピーカーが使う自然な英語を使用します。そのため、このコースは初心者には難しいかもしれませんが、私の英語は明瞭で理解しやすいので、初心者の方でも十分に学習できる内容です。中級レベルまたは初中級レベルの方で、リスニングスキルを向上させたいという方にはぴったりの教材となるでしょう。

I have been teaching English conversation to Japanese students since 2004 and I have realised that many students have the same set of problems.  In school you learn grammar and vocabulary but you don't have much chance to practice communication.  That's why, when you hear a native speaker using natural English it can be very different from your textbooks and very difficult to understand.  This course is designed to help you with that.

In this course you will listen to a series of stories, spoken in natural, native English. For each story there are 4 videos. In the first video I will give you 10 listening comprehension questions before you hear the story. This is to give you something to focus on while you’re listening to the story. The questions are written on the mark sheet in the lesson materials so you can print them out and look at the questions while you’re listening to the story.

In the second video we will do a listening quiz. I will ask you the same 10 questions again but this time I will give you 3 possible answers, A B and C, and I will give you a few seconds to mark your answer on the mark sheet. Then I will play you a clip from the story so you can hear the answer.

In the 3rd video we will focus on the vocabulary from the story. I will explain some useful or difficult words, we will practice the pronunciation and try some example sentences.

And finally in the 4th video we will look at some phrases from the story…again, I will explaining the meaning and you can practice saying them with some listen-and-repeat examples. And then it’s on to the next story.

By the end of this course I hope you will have improved your listening skills and feel a bit more confident understanding real, native English.

The stories are on a range of different topics and as I said, I will use real natural English, not textbook English so this course might be difficult for beginners, however my students tell me that my English is usually clear and pretty easy to understand so it’s not for advanced English speakers either…this course is for Japanese people with an intermediate…or upper-beginner level of English who are hoping to improve their listening skills.
