Time to stitch! In this lesson, we conquer the first five letters (A through E), focusing on foundational fill stitches essential for covering shapes. You'll master the Fishbone Stitch for smooth texture, the Fly Stitch for quick filling, the highly textured Basket Stitch, and the dimensional Long French Knots (Pistil Stitch). We introduce the Rope Stitch and Back Stitch as our consistent line and outline stitches.
Ready to add dimension? For letters F through K, we build structural, bold designs. You'll learn the difference between Satin Stitch and the thick Heavy Chain Stitch. We tackle the dimensional Braid Stitch for woven lines, create beautiful texture with the Bullion Knot, and learn the special technique of weaving the Detached Buttonhole Stitch (using a blunt tapestry needle!).
In this lesson (L through P), we focus on advanced texture and blending. Master the dimensional Cast-On Stitch and the unique two-color Interlaced Back Stitch. Most importantly, you will conquer the Long and Short Stitch—the key to smooth color shading and blending. We finish with the woven look of the Romanian Couching Stitch.
This lesson (Q through U) is dedicated to highly decorative, knotted, and textured line stitches. Learn how to create the spiraled Ceylon Stitch, the floral Rosette Chain Stitch, and the textured Knotted Lazy Daisy. You will also master the smooth, flat line of the Split Stitch and the open, feathered Cretan Stitch. We explore how foundation stitches (like Back Stitch) anchor these decorative techniques.
In our final stitching lesson (V through Z), we finish strong with advanced, dimensional techniques. Learn the textured Bonnet Stitch, the woven Web Stitch, and the structural Raised Chain Stitch (a chain stitched on top of the fabric). We complete the entire alphabet, and you'll receive your final instructions for the course project: stitching your name using at least five of your favorite new stitches!
