Let's make a slipknot.
This video demonstrates how to make a slipknot, which is the first skill you need to know to crochet. This is what connects the yarn to the crochet hook.
Let's make chains!
How to Make a Foundation Chain
Make a slipknot, then yarn over the hook from back to front.
Then pull the wrapped strand of yarn through the loop from the slipknot.
You just completed one chain and one loop remains on your hook. [Don't pull too tight, the chains should be loose enough that the head of the hook can fit through it without struggle.]
Repeat these steps to add the number of chains required for your project.
Let's make an SC stitch!
How to Make a Single Crochet Stitch
Insert hook in 2nd chain from the hook.
Yarn over and pull through. Now you have two loops on your hook.
Yarn over again and pull through both loops. You now have one loop on your hook again, ready to make your next single crochet.

I will show you how to make a bookmark – your first project!

If you're interested in making hats for family and friends during the holiday season, here is a guide to beanie sizes using double crochet. There is not a video tutorial to coincide with these, but now that you know the basics of double crochet in the round, these should be easy to make!
Also, if you want to give back to your community, hospitals are always looking for preemie sized hats for their NICUs and homeless shelters are happy to accept adult sizes! I love how the art of crochet can also serve those in need. ❤️
This is an introduction on getting started with amigurumi pieces, including an explanation of the stitch marker, magic circle (or ring), and an alternative method! I'm using worsted weight yarn for this demonstration. I recommend practicing with worsted weight then we'll move on to the bulky weight yarn in lesson 3.
This is a quick review of how to read amigurumi patterns, including a bonus pattern!
