I founded The Colleagues in 2008/2009. What I didn’t realize at the time was that the skills I developed while running a label—networking, marketing, engineering, relationship-building—would become my greatest advantage as a producer. Those experiences allowed me to hit the ground running and build a career that wasn’t dependent on one artist, one label, or one moment.

Requirements

  • Know the basic foundation of music royalties

Description

This course is for creatives who are tired of chasing placements, waiting on labels or artists to pay, and feeling like their income is out of their control. If you’re ready to take ownership of both your earning potential and the direction of your career, this course was built for you. I’ve been working in music for over 22 years, and like many producers, my path wasn’t linear—or easy. I originally started out doing everything: launching my own label, managing an artist, and producing his music—all while working at Walmart. In hindsight, I took on way more than I was prepared for (lesson learned). When that artist ran into legal trouble, I had to step back and re-evaluate. I realized I didn’t like my future being dependent on anyone but God and my own decisions. That’s when I made a clear pivot. I let go of the label and management side and went all-in on producing.
