    Lenormand – Game of Hope

Welcome to the Game of Hope Course – I highly recommend the following video which includes a brief example of the game itself:

I highly recommend watching the Game of Hope video https://youtu.be/wB5gGg-lPTM

In this course we are going to jump straight in to the directional read that is taught here in Bavaria (Home of the Game of Hope and Lenormand!!). The daily lessons will explain the method further but to get the most out it is important to lay the cards and experience the read.

The Game of Hope is known as the earliest “Lenormand Game”. Its release in 1799 is often referenced as the “pre-curser” to Lenormand Cards as we know them. The game itself references the 36 cards and their qualities of Auspicious versus Inauspicious and the instructions that accompanied the game are often said to be the earliest reference to Fortune Telling with this game.

Das Spiel der Hoffnung (The Game of Hope) is a game of chance designed by Johann Kaspar Hechtel published c1799 as a deck of cards that should be laid out in a playing board with each card being a step along the journey of life. Players begin on Card 1 (Rider) and move along the cards and try and avoid the pitfalls and struggles that life throws in our path, including troubles in the clouds card, death in the coffin card and of course wrongness in the fox card.

This game of chance and its instructions pre-dates the “Phillipe Le Normand” Instructions by approximately 50 years and forms the basis of many readers in Bavaria who have passed down this original reading style from the 18th Century.

When readers refer to “traditional Lenormand meanings” they most often do not realise their instructions were indeed predated to this extent. In this lesson we consider the instructions that came with the Game of Hope in the 18th Century.

    LESSON PLAN:

LESSON 1                    The Game of Hope instructions ca. 1800 - Movements

LESSON 2                     The Lenormand instructions ca. 1850 – Near / Far

    LESSON 3                     Directional Read

LESSON 4                     Auspicious / Inauspicious Cards

LESSON 5                     Compare + How to use this in a GT

  • Lesson 1 - The Game of Hope instructions ca. 1800 - Movements16:27

    Lesson 1

The aim of Lesson 1 is that you understand the basic movements within the Game of Hope and apply these as a reading technique.

Read both documents and watch the video for clarification.

    You will always:

Check the House of Anchor - the focus of the read is in here - where you should get to within the timeframe
Check House of Cross - what can hinder you getting there!
Check Man / Woman to see where you land within the spread.
Check all movements (starting with Ship) - this is in the document

Run through the movements and always see what card is sitting in the relevant game house e.g. to find out where the journey is going you check HOUSE of Birds - the card sitting in there gives you the detail.

  • Lesson 1 - Quiz
  • Lesson 2 - The Lenormand instructions ca. 1850 – Near / Far10:18

    Lenormand GOH – Lesson 2

Day 1               The Game of Hope instructions ca. 1800 - Movements

Day 2               The Lenormand instructions ca. 1850 – Near / Far

    Day 3               Directional Read

Day 4               Auspicious / Inauspicious Cards

Day 5               Compare + How to use this in a GT

Today we are looking at the Lenormand deck instructions that were released about 50 years after the Game of Hope. We are understanding the instructions from yesterday (day 1) and how the meanings below arose from them.

Note: you may change your views on the cards whilst doing this course, just embrace this new information and perspective of their meanings and grow with it.

  • Lesson 3 - Directional Read14:04

    Lesson 3 - Directional Qualities

One of my favourite aspects of the course is the directional qualities of the man and woman and how that can enhance your read!

Read the document and watch the video!

  • Lesson 4 - Auspicious / Inauspicious Cards12:33

Lesson 4 - Auspicious versus Inauspicious

Learn how to practically deal with the cards around the Man/Woman card easily!

The cards are actually showing you the situation and all you need to do is understand their placement - analyse the cards around the Man or Lady and consider which cards are more difficult than others in the timeframe presented!

  • Lesson 5 - German Directional Read12:56

Lesson 5 - German Directional Read

Not all cards have a directional quality, but some Lenormand cards do! Use this handy technique to spot situations and additional information that you may have missed!

Read the document and watch the video!
