What is an Online Resource? Short answer, and online resource is one which can be accessed with a computer and an Internet connection.. Whether you are searching the Internet or a vastly powerful online database like Westlaw, Lexis, or HeinOnline, all you need is a computer and an Internet connection. In this program, we cover identify the online resources we will be covering as well as introduce the student to Natural Language and Terms & Connectors (aka Boolean) search techniques.

Easy to learn, Westlaw is a massive online database allowing users to look for primary and secondary authorities state, federal, and international jurisdictions. In this presentation, students will learn how to conduct a basic and advanced search using Natural Language and Boolean search techniques. We will also cover how to conduct a citation search as well as how to search for information using a person's name.

Knowing how to search online resources is great - if you can afford to use them. But maybe all you really need to know how to do is to be able to create more focused search results. This presentation will cover what I call Internet Math and will help students create search strings designed to collect more focused search results using any Internet Browser. That's right - any Browser.

For the beginning legal researcher (and even for many seasoned litigants), legal research can be pretty scary. Having someone walk you through "how to use" online resources can help remove some of the scary-ness.

This course teaches students what is and how to use some of the more popular online legal databases like Westlaw, Lexis, and HeinOnline. Students will be exposed to both Natural Language and Boolean (aka Terms and Connectors) search techniques using both basic and advanced search options.
