Before initializing any Vedic study, it is imperative that you recite the Student Invocation in Sanskrit in order to enjoy a brilliant study.
It is said in yogic philosophy that the best way to remember any subject is to repeat its content over and over (abhyasa in Sanskrit) - repetition, repetition, repetition! Therefore, you will summarize some of the highlights learned in "Learn Vedic Astrology Part 1".
Vedic Astrology explains how each of the planets "gaze" at each other and influence each other, or not. Western Astrology uses an entirely different system to show how the planets influence each other, such as, sextiles, squares, etc.; yet Jyotish uses the explanation of 'planetary gaze' (Dṛṣṭi).
Learn in which signs (constellations) planets exert most of their power or function at a lesser than desireable level of power. Note that one of my students, Shubham Goel, just sent me the PDF files of the planets in the charts for the Exaltation and Debilitation grahas in the rashis! Wow, what an incredible job he did...good job Shubham!
Astrology in essence is a symbolic representation of what "happens above" (in the skys) also "happens below" (in our psyche)..."As above, so below"; therefore, it is no coincidence that planets themselves act like humans. They also have relationships amongst themselves. Learn what those relationships look like in the Planetary Cabinet.
Every planet has a unique set of qualities and characteristics that best represent the complexity of our psychology. Even though all the planets are necessary and neither planet is better or worse than the other, based on our 'human experience', we describe certain planets as being "malefic" or "benefic". In other words, some planet's influence on our psyche bring either more sorrow or more joy to our lives depending on its particular symbolism.
You can have a lot of fun if you get either the App in Google Play or the Apple Store named "Starry Night", or you may buy the software program so you can play around with the Orbits of the Planets in relation to Earth. When you see a "Bird's Eye View" of the orbits in the sky as if you were above in the sky, then you will understand better the concept of Retrogression. Here you will see a 'screen recording' of that "Bird's Eye View" of the retrogression of Mars, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn.
Take a look at how Rahu and Ketu look like in a real person's chart when they are in the 4th and 10th axis. Let's take a look at Mahatma Gandhi's chart where now Rahu is in the 10th versus the previous charts where Rahu was in the 4th House.
Take a look at how Rahu and Ketu look like in a real person's chart when they are in the 6th and 12th axis. Let's take a look at Bill Gates's chart, one of the richest men in the world.
After you learned to identify how a Temporal Benefic & Malefic are created, you will be able to assess what that means. In the handout given, there you will find the descriptions for every scenario into "bite-size" pieces. After time all this information will become "second nature", yet for now, it is imperative that you notice the nuances.
Look at the Handout and you will see all 12 Ascendants in 6 columns and 2 rows so that you start to learn the patterns and derive more meaning based on the Temporal Benefics & Malefics. It is a fun exercise. Choose any House and its ruling planet for that particular Ascendant and you can see what other Ascendant (Lagna) has that same planet and you'll see the similarities. This is for "pattern recognition" and it will be sure to enhance your learning experience.
