Understanding what SEO stands for.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.
It includes: The Keyword/s, Metadescription, Slug, Internal and External links, Alt-text in Images, and the structure of the your content.
Why SEO important?
Knowing about SEO allows you to strengthen your online presence as well as help your content reach out to the intended target audience and gain more traffic.
Using Yoast SEO on WordPress can help you optimize your online content. This plug-in allows you to keep an eye on Keyword usage, metadescription, internal and external links, slug, and other factors that contribute to ensuring optimized posts.
Installing the Yoast SEO Plugin is easy. And yes, this is a free plugin. So, it's a good idea to use it.
Your target keyword or keywords is one of the most important factor to ensure SEO. You can think of target keywords as a couple of words that people use to search for online content.
For example, when they're searching for the best foods for pet dogs, the keyword they are likely to target are 'best dog food' or even 'best dog food list.' The search engine results are likely to display links to websites that have content relating strongly to the keywords being used.
Along with the SEO Title, which we will discuss later in this course, your main title should be catchy as well as include the target keyword.
Using H2 or Heading 2 Text in your articles also helps with SEO and overall content readability. Also, try and include the target keyword in your H2 section.
SEO does take into consideration the overall readability of your content. So, make sure you break your content down into shorter paragraphs, shorter sentences, add bullet points, and even make lists to help people read and understand your content better.
Alt Text needs to include your target keyword. This is important because it helps your content appear in search engine results if a person is searches for a target keyword in the 'Images' section while using a search engine.
The SEO Title of your published online content is different from your main title. Normally, it is shorter, includes the keyword, and is more precise in letting readers know what the said content is going to be about.
The Slug of your online content can be considered as the specific URL for your online post. It should include the target keyword.
