  • 0110 - What Kind of Solution can be made with FMSP?4:14

    - FM Starting Point solutions are finding their way into a number of different types of business, including the following: training, marketing, aviation, legal, etc.

    - We use FM Starting Point internally here at RCC, it's a great starter solution that can solve several business needs.

  • 0115 - Top 10 Need-To-Know Items in FileMaker 1812:59

    - Find out what RCC thinks is the top 10 items in FileMaker 18 that you should know about.

    - In FMP 18 here is no File Conversion, which is good for users because it will make the transition more seamless.

    -  For the new release of FMP 18 you will have to have an updated OS on Mac and Windows. For Mac it will be High Sierra 10.13 or Mojave 10.14. For Windows you will want to have Windows 7 SP1 Professional, Windows 7 SP1 ultimate, Windows 8.1Pro, Windows 8.1 Standard, Windows 10 enterprise, or Windows 10 Pro.

    - One of the new features added to FMP 18 is scrip steps that allow you to manage files.

    - Another big feature that got shipped along with FMP 18 is the ability to give restricted admin privileges to users. They will be able to manage other works but not the full access admin. This allows some distribution of responsibility within an organization.

    - The old import dialog was revised and it more user friendly with its easy to understand interface.

    - URL Protocols are considered one of the top new features in FMP 18. Using URL Protocols allows a user to have a URL that would be run on a browser and it will trigger an action within your database. They even created a version specific URL type to solve some issues with URL Protocols.

    - Zabbix is a great open-source software that helps you monitor your servers. This is great for people that have multiple servers to take manage.

    - Adding Append to PDF in FM Go. It was already in FMP but now it is available in FM Go

    - Barcode support is larger now in FM 18, the library has had some things added to it that t was previously missing.

    - FileMaker has implemented an Auto-Open File feature that would automatically open a file for you on the launch of FileMaker.

    - Make sure to review the differences from 17 to 18 because a lot of features got updates and some things got marked for deprecation.

  • 0125 - Upgrading 13,14,15,16 or 17 solutions to FM1812:35

    - Running a file created on FMP 18 on an older version of FileMaker might still work but it will probably have broken pieces or features that just don’t work. If you have a file created in FMP 12 and tried it on FMP 18 it would work though. FileMaker is not good with backward compatibility but older files do still work on the newer versions on FMP.

    - Its best to have FMP within a 1 version range of FM Server because if It is too old you can’t host it on FM Server. For FM Cloud you will have to use the same version or newer to have it run properly.

    - You will have to make sure all of your plug-ins are updated to work on the new version on FMP. If they don’t work they can cause a lot of issues.

    - Make sure, if you have a database that is crucial to your organization, you test out the new software on a duplicate of your database first. It is always better to work on a duplicate to see if everything will run fine before you move onto the live copy of your database.

    - Along the same lines of the plug-ins you have to make sure that any external data systems you use are going to be compatible with the updated version of FileMaker.
