Welcome to Swirly Spanish, the online Spanish language learning game that takes you on an immersive adventure through the beautiful city of San Sebastián. Our game is designed to provide a unique and engaging simulation environment for students who want to practice their Spanish language skills.
Using Google Maps and Google Street View, we’ve created a virtual world where you’ll interact with virtual characters, solve mysteries, and explore the city while practicing your Spanish skills. Our game is built on task-based pedagogy and game-based learning principles to make sure that you’re not just learning the language, but having fun while you’re doing it.
Swirly Spanish is perfect for students who are already enrolled in a Spanish language course and want to receive more practice. It’s not a standalone solution for learners to learn from scratch. Rather, it’s a tool to supplement their existing coursework and provide an additional avenue for practice.
With Swirly Spanish, you’ll get the opportunity to practice constructing sentences in Spanish in a fun and engaging virtual immersion adventure. We’ve designed the game to include typical themes from any introductory Spanish curriculum, but we’ve presented them within a mystery adventure game that will keep you engaged and motivated to keep learning.
Participants who purchase pre-release access to the game at the current discounted rate now will maintain access to the full course when it becomes available.
Who this course is for:
- Students currently learning introductory Spanish looking for additional immersive practice materials
Instructor
Ravi Puralena has a lifelong fascination with how technology can bring joy to learners. Although his initial attempts at learning a foreign language in a high school classroom were awful, when he got to university, he was able to reprogram the video games and movies he enjoyed to teach himself German successfully. This attracted the attention of the Alexander von Humbolt Foundation and the German Government, who awarded him a long-term fellowship to continue exploring how video game technology and techniques could improve the language learning process. He also had many further opportunities to explore this topic, working as a Research Manager in the MIT Education Arcade / Learning Games Network research lab and elsewhere.
