This "Learn To Paint" (with acrylic) art course, using a reference photo, is taught by professional artist and art teacher (Masterpiece Art School) Cristian S. Aluas. A materials/supplies list is provided at the start of the course, listing economical options for students. The instructor talks about choosing your subject, if other than the reference photo he is using (or you can use the photo he uses, which is also provided) and he discusses composition theory. This course also features a couple of clear videos on colour theory and acrylic painting techniques, outlining how to use your brushes and how to achieve desired techniques (like gradients and blending). What follows is an easy-to-follow series of video lectures, geared toward art students of all levels, where the student can follow the instructor as he paints a dancer on a canvas (from the reference photo). Students can follow along with the same subject or just watch and learn from these short and engaging videos and then undertake their own painting project. This experienced instructor takes a fun and casual approach, aiming to make acrylic painting very accessible to any and all students that are looking to learn a new medium or gain a fresh perspective into this popular trend of painting realistically with acrylic paint!
- Advanced, looking for different perspective
Understanding the colour wheel, easily, and learning how to mix acrylic paint to get the desired colours and effects.
After giving the face and body more detail and shape, we now use our finest brush to add in the zebra stripes on the figure, still loosely referencing the photograph.
Now we add the final touches to the painting, tightening the contours of the figure, with the fine brush, and leveraging the ruler to paint a strait line in the background, among other little details.
Please see the next lecture for the extra editing the was done to the painting, showing how easy it is to paint over an acrylic painting and make corrections, when needed.
Here is a great example of how easy it is to correct something on an acrylic painting, by simply matching the colour of the area that you want to correct, painting over the desired area, and repainting the section (strait to paint; no penciling, unless you want to do it lightly and then paint over the penciled part entirely).
Have the confidence to correct something, if it bothers you or if you see that it was wrong (in your eyes). Be true to what you see (in the photo and in real life).
Here are the process images, attached, and the final painting!
Congratulations for making it to the end of my "Learn To Paint" tutorial at udemy.com!
I hope that you enjoyed it and that it was easy to follow. I tried to compress as much as I could in these short video lectures but there is a lot to learn. If you have any questions or need clarification, please feel free to send me a message.
Check out the framed painting, hanging on our hallway wall, attached, and please rate my course 5/5 stars!!! Thank you :)
