Description

Energy Audit is a method to measure energy flows .Boiler audit is a technique widely adopted to monitor the performance of steam generators .Steam generators are widely used in industries and would contribute to both the energy bill as well as carbon footprint in a big way especially if it is a process industry .In many countries energy auditing is a specialized job which consultants do for industries and help those save energy and money .Thus acquiring skills on  how to audit energy guzzling systems like boilers makes a person employable .

In this course students are first introduced to the properties of steam and then introduced to the use of steam tables. Those conversant with steam properties can skip these introductory video lectures.

Students are then introduced to  the two methods employed by energy auditors .Direct method or input -output method helps students gain insights into the performance of boiler easily and through less number of readings and back to envelope calculations .However this method is a bit inaccurate and fails to give insights on the ways to reduce losses from steam generators .

Heat loss method or indirect method is elaborate tool to assess the performance of boilers. Through series of video lectures ,indirect method is explained .Students would learn to measure and calculate the losses from boilers and arrive at boiler efficiency indirectly. Heat losses from dry flue gases are critical and how they affect boiler performance and how to reduce those losses are discussed from conceptual perspective. Other losses are also discussed .Every loss to be computed would require appropriate measurements and those are discussed .The instruments used to audit the steam generators are introduced to the student.
