We will use Microsoft Visual Studio to develop our SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports. In this video I walk you through downloading, installing, and configuring Microsoft Visual Studio for report development.
**Note: In the past there was a separate tool called SQL Server Data Tools which was really just Visual Studio. If you here me mention SQL Server Data Tools, or open SQL Server Data Tools, you can just open Visual Studio.
The Chinook Database is what you will use when you create reports. This video shows you how to install the Chinook Database
Codeplex no longer has the Chinook Database, so I have attached the scripts to this lesson.
You can directly download both .sql scripts and then run them as the video demonstrates.
The Chinook Database is your training database. This is meant as an overview to help you get familiar with your training database.
**Codeplex no longer hosts the .sql scripts, so I have uploaded them to the lesson. You can now download them directly from Lecture #5 and then run them just like in the video.
This foundation video is a whiteboard drawing video describing the different components that make up SQL Server Reporting Services. This is the big picture even though your focus for this training will be on Report Authoring.
SQL Server Reporting Services is made of many different tools. This will help you understand what tool you will focus on for this training.
During your training, you can always ask me questions in the lesson comments or through email. But, you should also be aware of all of the other great resources out there. This video shows you how to find answers when needed.
SQL Server Data Tools stores your reports in Projects and Solutions. This teaches you how to get started with the report authoring tool (SSDT).
This lesson helps you understand the how Reports, Projects, and Solutions all relate to one another.
You will need to close and open your report project as you go through your training. This lesson teaches you how to open the project back up once you have closed everything down.
