Description

Open Tunings are fundamental part of Blues History. Specially the Roots of Blues.

But meanwhile Open G is strictly connected to the sound of Mississippi (in styles like Delta Blues or Hillcountry Blues), Open D opened the door to way more different outcomes and developments, not only in Blues but also in Rock, Folk and Jazz.

It rapidly become one of the most versatile and creative alternatives to standard tuning.

Starting as an alternative for many guitar players to standard tuning, mainly to play slide, recently it gained major success thanks to great contemporary players, such as Ariel Posen, Joy Landreth and Derek Trucks, who took the sound of this tuning to the next level.

In this course we will start from the basics, mapping the fretboard and learning new positions, then we will dive into blues topics like Turnarounds, 7th chords, and also unusual way to use this open tuning, like playing minor chords!

Learning how this tuning works is also fundamental for learning the Slide technique, as your next step.

I will teach you in details how to master this tuning, not only with a practical bluesy approach but also with theory and harmonic informations, coming from my background as Music Education school teacher and my bachelor degree in Jazz Guitar.

We will step by step discover some of the incredible creative potential of this tuning.
