Welcome to the introduction to mindful drawing. In this course, you will be given tools to help you improve your mental wellbeing, using drawing as your muse. Some people struggle to meditate, and some people find drawing really frustrating but they still want to be creative.
We have devised a workshop to help you use mindful drawing techniques to help you relax and switch off from the world around you. Follow our guide to help you become a more centred and creative person.
Let's look at how shading can become mindful and help you to find a rhythm and accuracy without the stress of drawing realistically.
Check out part one on mindful shading with our first geometric cuboid with alternative shading gradients. Use your pencils here to try and go from dark to light in rows keeping the shading as smooth as possible. The hardest part is drawing your squares but once you've got that, the rest is easy!
Let's take a brief look over what to expect in this mindful mountain section. Get your pencil and pen ready and let's make some artwork.
In stage one, we look at decision making and understanding the fundamental principles of a mountain when it comes to drawing. The good thing about a mountain drawing, is we can't really tell when there is a few lines out of place! So follow the video, and we try to make this as easy as possible for yourself before the real fun starts.
In this lesson, we will look at the different options after we create the basic structure of the mountain. Feel free to make this your own and get creative. You can add more lines, introduce dots, or even add some block colours. The options are you. Grab your fine liner on this one to finish off the drawing to look like a print.
Let's take a look at what to expect when drawing mindful mandalas. Grab your pencil, your fine liner an maybe some different shapes that are circular to make life easier for yourself.
In this lesson we will look at the structure of mandalas and how they are created. You'll need your circular shapes, maybe a candle, a cup, some tape, to help you create your mandala easily. Then we will look at different shapes to put in the mandala but just remember, this is yours to make however you want! Feel free to add shapes, remove shapes, do whatever! So long as you are repeating the shapes, then you are doing the right thing.
This is the best part of a mandala drawing. You have done your outline, you have repeated your patterns and created the structure of your mandalas. Now that you have done the hard work, you can use a fine liner and go over everything including introducing block colour. This will make your mandala look super powerful and strong so really take a moment to enjoy that.
China will show you how to create your artworks and how you can relax during the process. All of these exercises are designed to remove the pressure and any expectation of needing to be a professional artist as anyone can achieve the same results. You cannot go wrong! Don't forget to share your artwork with the class so you can receive feedback and show everyone what you achieved!
