Welcome to the Intermediate level. It will be a challenge if you have not completed the Beginner courses as we are increasing the speed. But don't be discouraged. Practice makes perfect, as long as what you practice is correct. We make it correct for you by inviting guests to speak freely. They talk at their own speed, about the subject of their choice and where they are, with the initial lighting and background noise, like in the real world.

READ THE TRANSLATION (At your level, it's optional). If you prefer to read it, it will give you an idea of what our conversation is about. That's all for now. Then, go to step 1.

STEP 1: The first time you start a lesson, feel free to watch it, let's say, for motivation. You will have another opportunity to watch it on Step 6.
For now, WATCH IT OR/AND PROCEED. Whenever you come back to this dialog, don't watch. Start with the sound only. You will get much more from the exercise. The reason we are suggesting that you delay watching is that most of us are 'visual'. We want to see something. But the sight takes over and there is little left of our attention to really listen. We are distracted. Of course, to watch is also important. Next, go to step 2.

STEP 2 - LISTEN. Just listen. Don't read in the booklet even if you downloaded it. The goal at your level is to catch details in order to one day be able to imitate real speed delivery.
I will read it slowly for you. You will listen only, for now. Concentrate on the sound you hear. You don't have to translate in your head. Our course is not about translating. It's about being so accustomed to the language that it becomes a part of you.

STEP 3 - LISTEN & REPEAT. The formula is the same as at the beginner level except that you will repeat faster,
still with no text.

In this 3rd French Whisperer course, you will continue to work on 12 more unscripted interviews step-by-step. We will continue to use our color-coding system to help you pronounce French but we are starting to let you be on your own at this level. You will repeat a step faster at the intermediate level, compared to the Beginner level, in order to reach the fastest speed at the advanced level. It's a unique approach that is challenging but also rewarding. If you have not gone through the Beginner levels of our program, we suggest you do it. You will have gained a "Method" to grow in your studies of French with regularity and strength.
The videos of the interviews are provided, as well as the transcripts and translations. We will invite you to follow the instructions. If a dialog is too long for you, feel free to take a couple of lines at a time and go through the steps. You can adapt the material to your learning style but we believe that there is a way to learn that is more productive of good results - My way. This course will prepare you well for the next course, where you will be working on film dialogs. Watching films and imitate the actors with our help will enrich your vocabulary and give you enhanced confidence.
You may subscribe to our youtube channel 'French Whisperer learn french' for more advice on pronunciation.
A few words about my teaching method:
LEARN FRENCH THE WAY IT IS ACTUALLY SPOKEN
- For decades, most French courses have focused on vocabulary lists, grammar drills, and slow, overly clear audio. Yet learners still struggle to understand real French conversations. French Whisperer was created to solve that problem.
CREATED BY A TEACHER WHO FOCUSES ON REAL SPEECH
- Through carefully selected unscripted interviews, this course trains your ear to recognize authentic pronunciation patterns used by native speakers every day.
A METHOD DESIGNED FOR LONG-TERM MASTERY
- The signature color-coding method helps you see what native speakers pronounce — and what they don’t — allowing you to internalize real spoken French instead of guessing.
TRUSTED BY SERIOUS LEARNERS
- Many students arrive after trying multiple programs without achieving real listening confidence. What they discover here is a method that builds listening comprehension, naturally improves pronunciation without frustration, develops real-world understanding, prepares learners for authentic conversation. This is why so many describe SmartFrench as the course that finally “made French click.”
SUPPORT BEYOND THE COURSE
- You can reach me with your questions at: christian@smartfrench.com.
- Visit my site smartfrench..com to see the entire program.
PREPARING YOU FOR ADVANCED FRENCH
- This course serves as the bridge to film dialogues — where learners begin imitating actors and absorbing natural vocabulary, rhythm, and expression. Confidence rises dramatically.

I just went over the beginners level for the french lesson and I asked to myself, " Why didn't my french instructors from France, teach me how to read the material or even pronounce the alphabet correctly?" I review some of the material and french is way easier to learn with your program. Thank you for making this course. No other programs work for me at all, Not even other "learn french online for free" websites. Thank you Thank you Thank You. You've just gained another lifetime customer. — Brittney Johnson

I really like the method. The intelligent simplicity of its structure makes it very efficient and enjoyable. Yes, you repeat a lot, but such in a practical way that you learn French with the right accent and inflections immediately. I started to listen and pay attention to the sound right away, much more than with any other French courses I have used before. My comprehension has improved tremendously. —Geena

French Whisperer is a MUST buy. This program will completely demystify the art to French spoken language--and it is an art. When I heard my first lesson I honestly felt betrayed by my other programs--why didn't they simply tell the truth about French pronunciation like French Whisperer does? That is why if you have had years of instruction or not even one French lesson this program will benefit you.
You get the written dialogues, the alphabet, and helpful pronunciation tips. You also get a program, which effortlessly takes you through a rich library of interesting conversations. You can watch the video and audio together or listen to the audio alone. The secret to French Whisperer is that it breaks it down for you--lesson by lesson. One of the most important things in learning a language is to utilize your listening skills--something that had always terrified me until French Whisperer. Go through each dialogue step by step and you will lose your fear and finally gain the confidence to trust your ears. Then pick up your old language books, tapes, and French movies and you will be amazed when you finally understand the speech patterns. I highly recommend this program—ENJOY! — Pat Jones

I have studied French grammar and memorized French vocabulary. But until French Whisperer/SmartFrench, I often found carrying on a conversation with French people difficult and understanding French movies and TV, almost impossible. Then I discovered SmartFrench. This program focuses on two important, but often ignored aspects of learning the French language: pronunciation and aural comprehension. In these two areas, SmartFrench is outstanding. It begins by discussing the alphabet and French sounds, French words, French sentences, and expressions. Then painstakingly walks you through interviews with real French people. You hear the interviews read, you pronounce the words, you pay attention to the rhythm of the language and the patterns of speech. You read the text, and then you hear the actual interview. As the program progresses, your ability to listen, to hear, and to understand improves. I highly recommend this program to people who want to challenge themselves to actually speak and understand the French language. — LivinginFrance

You won't find a better way to learn French and learn it quickly than SmartFrench by French Whisperer. I took 2 years of French in high school and two in college, but couldn't speak it or understand the spoken language. After a week or so of French Whisperer, I had learned more than I had during years of formal training. You will pick this up with lightning speed. The ability to listen to a variety of native French speakers (and to have the French text and translation when you want them), to hear them use typical French expressions that you will quickly find yourself using, to hear how they form sentences in everyday conversation, is simply invaluable. As you listen and repeat (and you should listen over and over), you'll begin to notice that, just like with English speakers, some Frenchmen speak better French than others; the young student, for example, speaks more casually and with more slang than, say, the diplomat or the art dealer. With this ingenious system, you'll be exposed to all manner of speaking habits, all of which you can copy, or not, and will find yourself automatically absorbing all the nuances of the language you cannot learn in any other way. Other than living in France, of course. — Michael M.
