This is where you will know the Microsoft Excel course structure, it is divided into five main chapters, logical and functional formulas, Text formulas, Date formulas, Pivot tables & pivot charts, Charts & Data Visualization.
Before, you go deeper into the course, you must understand the interface of Microsoft Excel, specially the ribbon, as it is where you can find anything you need in Excel.
If you already know this, feel free to skip it to jump directly to the next chapter where you will learn the logical and functional formulas and features in Excel. However, I strongly recommend that you watch every video until the end as you never know what you are missing.
Functional and logical formulas and features in Excel and those that uses mathematical or logical methods to function such as sum, count, if, sumif, nestedif, index, match. in other words, it is mostly all formulas other than the text and date formulas.
These formulas are the most common formulas in Excel, they are vastly used in most sectors, other formulas related to the date and text formulas in Excel, in my opinion, are much underappreciated.
Here you will learn the formulas that I like to call, straight forward formulas in Excel as they don't require a lot of steps, such as the sum formula which is used to calculate the summation of range of numbers, or the max or min formulas which are used to retrieve the maximum or minimum values, respectively, in a certain range of data.
If formulas in Microsoft Excel is the formula that distinguishes Excel, it is the single most important formula in Excel in my opinion, if you learn it well, you will understand the core of Excel. Although it seems simple, but it is confusing to many people specially beginners. In its core, if formula can be explained as a formula that let Excel returns a value if a condition that you enter is true, and another value if the condition is false.
I strongly advise you to learn this feature vey well before continuing to learn the next features in Excel. You may not see why at the moment, but I believe learning the if formula will give you the sense that you need to learn and practice Excel.
At the end, this course's intention is to teach you not only the functions and formulas in Excel, its intention is to give you the sense you need to think like Excel.
Now that you understand if formulas in Excel, you should be able to easily learn and, or formulas, as those are too logical formulas just like the if formula, but instead of returning values that you inter once the conditions is true or false, they return a predefined values which are (True, False).
You will also learn how to combine more than one formula in one, such as combining if formula with and, and, or formulas.
here you will go deeper into Excel core brain to learn how to think like Excel.
This video is divided into three, Rank, Sumif & Sumifs, Rank is relatively easy to understand, it ranks a value based on a set of data. Sumif(s) allows you to sum certain values in a set of data based on a condition you specify.
Its better to watch this video to understand it properly rather than reading the description.
This is a feature in Microsoft Excel, not a formula, that allows you to change the format of a cell or/and the text inside a cell based on a condition that you enter.
This feature is commonly used in Excel and it is one of the most important ones in my opinion. it does increase the productivity and efficiency of your worksheet.
This is another feature in Excel that allows you to add limitations to the sheet users by restricting them in a way or another to certain inputs such as adding drop lists, range of selected data etc..
Match formula is usually used with another formula that allows you to retrieve data from any table easily. but match formula in excel by itself returns the location of a value (row or column).
Index & Match is a combination of two formulas that replaces the lookup formulas in Excel, it is confusing at first but when you understand it, it will be easy to use.
Once you learn it, you will be using it a lot in Excel as it does help you a lot when you need to use a lookup formula.
I personally don't use the choose formula on my daily work, but I added it in this course because I know that many people use it and find it useful while working in Excel.
You will understand this function and the reason it is added in this course once you learn how to add the scroll bar to create a dynamic dashboard which will be taught in teh last chapter (Data Visualization) at the end of this course.
Best way of learning is to practice, and best way to practice is to apply what you learn!! but the second best way is to have homework. Therefore, I strongly recommend you to apply what you have learned so far to do this homework.
Text formulas are much easier than the logical formulas and features in Excel. whenever you have a text (string), most of the logical formulas you learned in the previous chapter wont be applied here, you will need a new set of formulas.
This chapter is where you can find them.
We will start with the easiest formulas or the straight forward formulas such as proper, roman, upper, lower etc..
In this video, you will learn how to add combine two texts in different cells in one such as adding first name and last name in one cell using Excel formulas.
In this lecture, you will learn how to retrieve portion of a text based on its characters location starting from the left, right or middle of the text.
The len formula let Excel return the length of a text based on the number of characters the text is made of.
Search and find are similar formulas that let Excel returns the location of a character in a text for Example, SEARCH("r","ProXperties",1) will return the value 2, SEARCH("P","ProXperties",1) will return the value of 1.
The difference between Find & Search in Excel is that one of them is case sensitive and the other is not.
The beauty of Microsoft Excel or even any other Microsoft software, is that it provides you with the bricks that you will need to build whatever you want, the formula ifisnumbersearch is a combination of three formulas that I used to know and return the email provider from a list of Emails automatically. I'm sure there are many other ways to do the same and come up with the same results, so if you know other ways, share it with us, with ProXperties community to help us widen our knowledge in Microsoft Excel.
After applying the right formula, you will know that it has limitations, for example, if your want Excel to return the characters after a dash symbol, and your list is not consistent, meaning that the first data has four characters after the dash and the second has 5, the third has 2 etc. right will not be automated as it will always return the values according to the number of characters you have instated in the right formula.
To overcome this issue, I have used a combination of three formulas Right, Len, and Search.
Substitute will allow you to replace any character with another in a fast and effective way, in EXCEL STYLE one would say.
Check box is not a formula, it is a combination of steps that I used to create a table with checkboxes that visualize the completion of the tasks. this is lecture has an advanced tricks but all within the course material. You will be able to do it easily once you learn this lecture.
Most importantly, you need to learn how to think like Excel and come up with your own ideas to increase the efficiency of your worksheets. this lecture is a good example of what you can do with what you have learned so far.
Many people requested a formula to convert numbers to text, this lecture is where you will see that formula.
Don't be scared, it is huge!! but you don't have to reinvent the wheel, you can use it as is!!
Best way of learning Excel is to practice, and best way to practice is to apply what you learn!! but the second best way is to have homework. Therefore, I strongly recommend you to apply what you have learned so far to do this homework.
If you are a planner, this chapter is a must!! you need to know how to deal with dates in Excel to maximize the efficiency of your work. if you are not a planner, this chapter is without a doubt, an added value that you will use in you worksheets in Microsoft Excel.
In this lecture, you will understand the concept behind the number in Excel, and how Excel analyze dates
Yearfrac is an Excel formula that returns the remaining percentage of the year
If you want to know a projects end date considering the holidays and weekends, or you want to calculate the duration of a project considering the working days only, here is where you will learn how to do just that using Excel only.
Best way of learning Excel is to practice, and best way to practice is to apply what you learn!! but the second best way is to have homework. Therefore, I strongly recommend you to apply what you have learned so far to do this homework.
Long back when I started using Excel, I was totally oblivious of the importance of Pivot Tables in Excel, I always thought that it is an unnecessary feature in Excel. Until one day I decided to check it out. I realized how important it is when it comes to having a vast number of data that needs to be organized. with few clicks, you will rearrange a huge table into neat organized one with few clicks away to obtain any information you need. This is the chapter that might change your perspective on using Pivot Tables
Here you will learn how to create Pivot Tables in Excel and how to use them properly
After inserting a Pivot Table using Microsoft Excel, you need to be able to edit it smoothly without any hustle, if this is the case, you are in the right place to learn just that
Now that you know how to insert, edit, and use the Pivot Tables, you need to learn the options you have to increase your efficiency on using it. this is the place where you will learn that!!
Best way of learning Excel is to practice, and best way to practice is to apply what you learn!! but the second best way is to have homework. Therefore, I strongly recommend you to apply what you have learned so far to do this homework.
