This introduction to Copperplate Calligraphy course is designed specifically for beginners. We start off by getting familiar with the pointed pen used in this art, then study the fundamental strokes in an in-depth analysis. Next, we connect the basic strokes to form each letter of the lowercase alphabet individually. Finally, we learn how to join letters to create words.
Who this course is for:
- This course is perfect for beginners of the Copperplate calligraphy style, or handlettering artists wanting to learn a new script.

How did we (twin sisters Jillian & Jordan) start our lettering journey, and what led us to create our own business? Well...we could go back as far as our childhood when we would spend HOURS in our craft room, following along with Klutz books (does anyone else remember those??), experimenting with markers, paper, paint, beads, string, and any other supply we could get our little hands on. Our mom can testify to the huge messes we made. We took a basic calligraphy class while on a summer vacation at age 10, and we loved to "beautify" our notes, projects, and homework assignments.
After we both graduated from college, our focus was on our data-driven jobs, and a desire to return to our creative sides after work ended each day.
During this time, our passion for calligraphy was reignited. We connected with hundreds of lettering accounts on Instagram, bought what felt like a hundred books and did untold amounts of research, and watched as many YouTube videos as we could find (there weren’t many at the time). We spent hours experimenting to learn as many lettering styles as possible.
Friends, family, and coworkers began requesting custom greeting cards and personalized quotes, and nothing felt better than creating something handmade to make someone else feel special. We wanted to share this feeling of joy, so we published our first video tutorials in 2016 and taught our first in-person workshops in 2017. Even though we had hundreds of students go through our workshops, we knew we could help even more people by teaching online.
Fast forward to today, we’ve taught tens of thousands of students just like you, created a highly engaged and supportive community, and built a global following of over 150,000 across our online channels.
We’ve taught over 30,000 students from 149 countries around the world. We are so proud of our students who have gone from “what’s calligraphy?!” to seeing a beautiful transformation in skill and confidence.
