    • Using the microphone as your headphone jack. Get used to listening to yourself while you talk through your mic (headphone jack).

    • When using earbuds, make sure you’re using the correct mic before going live.

    • Noise-cancelling headphones (recommended).

    • Consider using boom arms. Makes you look more professional.

    • Webcam is optional (suggestion: Logitech C920). You can use clips for promos.

    • Learn to promote yourself and your podcast.

    • Audacity, free audio-editing software.

    • Get your file structure sorted, neat from the start. Podcast folder. Organise.

    • Less is more for background. Less clutter. Must be simple and clean. Earthy colours. Scenery.

    • Allow silence at the start of the recording. Build it into the pre-show notes. Pre-recording and post recording routine (10-15 seconds).

      • Double check that your right microphone is connected, your right headphones are connected on the settings, double check Skype setting (if you’re using Skype), have a drink ready by you (water & jug), have a pen and pad ready (for writing your thoughts down).

      • Don’t immediately turn off the recording after the show.

    • Record your intro and outro when it’s top of mind and fresh. Research your topic/guest (a minute to a minute in a half).

    • In the intro, offer 3 things to learn from the episode.

    • Make the guest feel at ease. Be familiar with the topic. Speak from the heart, not the head. If you have a script, be mindful of how you deliver it, and how it sounds.

    • Break the ice for the guest.

    • Don’t forget that you can use the mute button.

    • Active listening is important.

    • Without guests or topics, you have no show.

    • Batching, setting recording for sessions in batches.

    • Using Calendly/calendar tools.

    • Using Audacity to edit audio.

    • Most audio editing programs will have similar features.
