The best way to get started contacting your network is to connect your email account to LinkedIn. I show you how and why and what to upload.
We go over the mechanics of connecting with your existing network on LinkedIn, including bulk uploading. We discuss strategies about who to connect with and how to approach this activity for maximum impact.
We review two key functions of your home page and how to incorporate them into your LinkedIn strategy. Your newsfeed and the impact of commenting on posts there and the personalized updates about your network. You will use your LinkedIn homepage feed to stay up to date with your network. This can be used to passively stay in front of your contacts or actively reach out to them around topics of interest to them.
You learn the mechanics of finding and joining groups, and receive a basic overview of what they do. You can SKIP this lecture if you are already an active group member.
Implement your strategy for using groups.
Use the links at the top of your home page to provide brief updates or longer posts. 60% of your network will see you if you post just one update per day!
Comment on blog posts to make yourself visible and connect directly with people of interest to you.
Potential employers usually have company pages for you to follow to stay updated on news, giving you fuel for your networking efforts.
Configure your settings properly and receive the updates you want without getting an inbox full of spam. This will allow you to network more effective because you will know what to do and where to go before you even log on!
LinkedIn requires a different approach than other social media, like Facebook. Quality matters more than quantity.
Do you want to build a large network or a focused network? Implement the right strategy for you when inviting or accepting invitations to join your network.
Want to build a large network quickly? Catch a LION! What's that? It stands for LinkedIn Open Networker. These people accept all invitation and build large networks that you can leverage to build your own large network.
Accept invitations according to the strategy you have chosen. I demonstrate how we see invitations and how I choose according to my own LinkedIn strategy.

How should you think about networking as an activity? Here are my thoughts.
Before you implement your plan, let's check in and make sure you are all set! You need:
Use the act of setting up and organizing your list as the first step toward an effective networking campaign. Pull all of your contacts together, score them and get ready to contact them and enter them into your CRM. I share a two-column, color-coding scheme that I use to organize my list.
We review the objectives of contacting your network, how to do it and what to cover. Guiding principles include the K.I.S.S. Method (Keep It Short and Sweet) and the U.U.G.G. Conversation Structure (Update, Update, Get Give).
Use LinkedIn's most powerful feature - your 2nd level network! In this lecture, we look at 1st, 2nd and 3rd level networks and the best ways to access and use them.
Do you want a low impact, less time-consulting way to stay current with your network? Posting updates and commenting on your newsfeed is a great way to let people know about you without reaching out directly. I consider it a passive/active strategy and this lecture contains information you need to get started.
Groups have gotten overcrowded with junk posts, but they can still be highly useful to your job search. The key is to contact people in the groups that look interesting to you and then begin a conversation. That could happen right in the comments section or by using one of your 15 free monthly group messages.
Check out how to cold connect with new contacts the right way! Learn how to handle those new connections once they accept your invitation.

Do you know what the single most effective tool is for finding a new job? Yes, of course, it's the ability to network! But many of us are not natural networkers. You may not have spoken with your contacts in a while, maybe you don't have many or don't have the ones you need. Maybe you're shy, or maybe you just don't know where to start.
In the next two hours, you will gain the tools needed to become a networking superstar using the LinkedIn platform. The LinkedIn website offers capabilities that allow us to connect with people in new, sophisticated ways both actively and passively so that you can be identified as the expert you are.
Happy networking!
