
This course is designed to equip doctors, nurses, midwives, and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of breastfeeding mothers with essential knowledge and skills to support breastfeeding mothers at all stages, starting from immediately after birth, before discharge and in outpatient settings. You will refresh your knowledge on the anatomy and physiology of lactation and learn how to apply your theoretical knowledge into practical and clinical skills. You will learn the stages of lactation and the changes of the breastmilk in each stage, with a focus on colostrum and its benefits. How it is different from the mature breastmilk, you will learn how to help mothers and educate them on essential topics they must know even before birth, such as how to position the baby for feeding and how to judge whether a position is correct or no, you will also learn how to guide your patients to supplement breastmilk in various ways such as finger feeding, cup feeding, spoon feeding and the excellent tube feeding, this to avoid the use of bottle feeding. One of the most important topics to be discussed in this course is how to teach moms to achieve pain-free breastfeeding from day 1 until weaning.
