  • History and background of Kukishinden Roku Shaku Bujutsu23:05

This introductory lesson goes over all the things one should know about our style and history, as well as a few thanks to teachers.  Learn about the founder of Kukishinden, the rescue of Go Daigo, the famous battle where Kuki earned his name and who was responsible to keeping the information alive after the firebombing of scrolls in World War 2.

  • Preparation for training and review13:59

Lecture 2 begins with a meditation to prepare our mind and body for training.  This Bo Staff method is much more than simply fighting, it is also a way to enhance our lives and health through regular practice.  Class 2 is warm ups, techniques, and a review of Kamae or stances from class one - a previous video series available on Udemy called Kukishinden Basics by Spencer Bolejack.  This lecture prepares us for the first two kata which begin in the next class.

  • Kata 1 and 2; Goho, Ura Goho12:31

This lecture will train you in our first two kata from Kukishin Ryu.  Footwork, handling, angling, distance, and timing are all explored from multiple camera angles.  We then begin the training with our partner, and finally change the timing to simulate fighting to better understand the feel of each movement.  Continue your own training by using counters, and counters to counters, as well as free flow follow ups with locks chokes takedowns and body weapons as skill and safety allow.  Keep an eye out for future videos covering these options in detail.

  • Kata 3 and 4; Ura Suso Otoshi and Ippon Sugi15:25

Lecture 4 explores Ura Suso Otoshi and Ippon Sugi.  We begin by slowly learning on our own and move into partner training with different feeling and slight variations of technique.

  • new handling drills, Kata 5; Taki Otoshi and final closing18:16

Our final lecture on this ryu introduces new warm ups and handling drills for Bo Staff and finishes with Taki Otoshi, our kata 5 from selected examples of Kukishinden Ryu.  In closing you will get to see a little footage of recording the soundtrack for this video and my helpful crew.  You will also see other things I do and learning opportunities, as well as my custom blade smithing business and where to find out more information.

  • BONUS 1: Kobudo Power Kata one, class one19:00

This is a free bonus included for students who would like to train more material for traditional Bo Staff.  Kobudo Kata are power striking styles and more traditional in their format for solo practice.  This lecture covers most of the complete form, giving the student an addition style and school of thought as well as new techniques to add to their arsenal for self defense with a staff.

  • BONUS 2: Kobudo Power Kata one, complete (class two)10:56

Part 2 of my free bonus offering for you.  This is a last portion of a traditional Bo Kata from a harder power striking style.  Thank you for joining me for training, please stay in touch.

Requirements

  • Students should begin with Kukishinden Basics course one

Description

In Kukishinden we are striving to understand a feeling between two people at a moment of meeting, not a specific movement or technique.  However, this feeling must be developed through practice.  Our practice in this Ryu consists of stances, movement, strikes, and kata.  The Kata within Kukishinden are based on real battles which took place within the styles history, not long memorized patterns.

Students will learn about the founding and transmission of this school starting in the 1300s and into the modern day with Takematsu Toshitsugu.  You will learn wonderful exercises for fitness and health using a pure and clean weapon - 6 foot long wooden staff.

The second lecture begins training with a meditation on the beach and setting of awareness and intention for practice.  Then we will warm up and review some things from course one.

We will explore each kata in detail with overhead, side, and multi angle views, also performed with a partner and lastly with broken rhythm and intensity that simulates a real fight.  Variations in footwork and handling are demonstrated.

This video is professionally recorded with voice overs from Cold Mountain Studio, an original soundtrack by the author, and beautiful cinematic photography that will inspire your training and bring you back time and time again.

We recommend you complete the basics in course one before advancing to this level.

A free bonus is attached to the end of this class!  Two extra video sessions on a Kobudo Kata are included for free to learn a completely different feeling and style to add to your training.  Kobudo Kata 1 is powerful and strong and resembles a more traditional form than the applicational fight studies of Kukishinden Ryu.

While this is one of my more expensive classes available on Udemy, you will find it is well worth the investment.

Overall, this is one of the best studies of the long stick you will find - giving you many years of enjoyable training, solo or with a partner, and access to a tradition of excellence from across the globe.  Join a family of worldwide martial artists, and begin your training in a school that is also known as one of the branches of Ninjutsu in the modern era.  For licensed, personal instruction, find a school within the Bujinkan organization in your area.  Ask for training in Kukishinden Rokushaku Bojutsu; the long staff.

Thank you,

Spencer
