BASIC FORM OF SIDE KICK
There are 3 levels for sidekicks that you can aim.
knee level:
you can throw the side kick to leg.
<but if you aim the knee joint
you can damage your opponent permanently.Definitely i don't recommend this.
mid level: You can get the best result in this level. you can aim, stomach between chest area. especialy you can knock dow your opponent if you strike to liver.
Chin level:
You can aim the chin but i need to warn you
If you hit the throat accidently it can be cause die your opponent
chin level:
Let's learn how to do the best sidekick.
First off all, you need to learn how to do footwork for a sidekick.
Basic form of side kick starts with the side stance.
open your foot wide and parallel, bend your knees a bit.
step forward with the back leg, from behind the lead leg.
Now pay attention to the support leg form.
In this position your heel must point your target.
Toes point opposite sides.
From this position throw sidekick
after turning back to where you start .
For a perfect side kick, you need to start with perfect footwork.
Practice this foot work till you feel comfortable.
Focus good form.
Lets see some sample of side kick from different angles.
this will help for understanding.
HOW TO SIDE KICK CLOSER DISTANCE
from first circle or from seconth circle its posible to throw side kick…
this can be doing with 2 main puposes.
1- ofcourse side kick so powerfull kick…
2- with this technique you can get off from red zone to safe zone…
3-very unexpecting technique for your opponent…
its actualy easyer than another version of side kick.
jump back with support leg and throw side kick same time.
anorher versions of rules same here…
be carefull upper body position..
foot position
HOW TO SIDE KICK WITH SMALL JUMP
With this technique, you can catch your opponent from a far distance.
As i say always, the front leg is faster than the back leg.
because of distance.
I love using this kind of sidekick.
very long-range kick.
There is no good angle for your opponent when you apply it with good timing and good technique.
Lets learn details.
start with a natural fighting stance.
your opponent usually doesn't expect a sidekick from the natural fighting stance.
lift your knee as if you were going to throw front kick, here is very important.
in this position you need to make believe your opponent front kick coming.
same moment you need to push off to the floor with a support leg and jump towards to opponent and hit the side kick.
after that skip back to safe zone.
ROUND KICK (POWERFUL STILE )
Round kick is very common technique for all combat sports. It's very effective and powerful.
however there are many kind of round kick. This is a powerful version of round kick.
Start with a natural fight stance, put your strong leg back.
The front leg will be the support leg.
the support leg is important as much as the kicking leg.
you need to turn your support leg on your ball of foot.
At the same time turn your hip.
Upper body has to be turned as well.
Kick with shin bone.
like cutting with an axe.
turn back to a natural fighting stance.
ARM POSITION
What about arm position? Back arm, have to protect my rib cage and my chin.
My opponent can attack me from this angle.
I will give you 3 different ways for lead arm position.
1-when I throw round kick my lead arm goes to the opposite side of my kick.
This helps keep balance and make the kick stronger.
This is the classic version.
2-Again, throw your lead arm opposite of your kick but do it higher level.
If you do it this way, you have a chance to catch a potential punch.
Now you can see my lead arm position in slow motion.
Keep attention to how I swing my arm to catch potential punches.
3- I prefer to keep my arm parallel to my kick. This way I increase my chances of catching a possible punch, but it may take time to do this when you throw a strong round kick.
You can work out whichever of these 3 methods is suitable for you.
but big but, second method more advanced than first method.
third method better than another method.
UPPER BODY POSİTİON…
What about the upper body position for a round kick …
I will give you 2 methods for upper body position.
METHOD 1
Keep your upper body parallel to your kick.
You need to keep parallel your kick, hip, shoulders
The biggest advantage of this method, keeps your head away from your opponent's punches. This is long range kick. safer and stronger than method 2.
METHOD 2
Lets compare 2 methods for understanding better.
You can see from different camera angles.
Keep attention to difference angle of between upper body and round kick.
right side of screen, which mean is method 2, i lean down less, my kick and my upper body not exactly on the same line, so my head still range of my opponent's punches. in return this kick faster than method 1,
you can use this kick after some punches like third arm…
its hard to noticed from your opponent.
If you can't throw round kick high enough,
Try to tilt down your upper body more…
If your kick is still not high enough, flexibility might be the reason for this problem.
You can take a look at my Ultimate stretching program.
It can be helpful for increasing your flexibility.
İf you wanna be good fighter, Always you need to consider next move.
Before explain this thecnique i need to remind you about fighting distance,
When i explain side kick, i mentioned about distance.
Lets remember about distance then we can turn back to main topic…
First circles is red zone many kind of techniques is posible in this distance, like, punch, elbow, knee, head but, grapling, etc.
second circle is best for punch and some short distance kick…
third circle best for kick,
fourth circle best for jump kick…
imagine that i am on the second or third circle but i want to strike my opponent closer distance techiques.
how can i do this strategi ?
first I throw my round kick in good form. normaly, I would pull back my kick in natural fighting position instead of this i drop my kicking leg closer the my opponent. Now i am in the first circle so i can strike any closer distance thecniques. Depend what kind of combat sports you are in.
after closer distance combat any time i can skip back to third or fourt circle. This is great strategi about control distance. if you can control distance you can control fight. Learn this ... in this technique very important where you drop your kick. this adjust your distance.
I want to speak about another thecnique,
this time i will throw kick with lead leg also from far distance…
Pay attention my foot work. i can get inside of my opponent very effective and fast with this foot work. skip back to safe zone and come back with big kick…
I use high kick in this combination if you have trouble with high level kick you can try mid level.
ROUND KICK( LEAD LEG)
There are many kinds of round kicks. Now, I am gonna talk about the details of the round kick with the lead leg.
Footwork is very important with this technique.
The strategy is I am gonna keep my dominant leg as a lead leg with purpose.
Because the lead leg, closer to my opponent, these advantages make it faster.
By the way, make perfect both legs.
Let's talk about the details step by step…
All step is very important.
When you workout, make sure all step is ok.
1-
small step forward with lead leg.
2-
jump forward with back leg.
3-when my back foot landed, same time round kick should contack my target.
support leg’s heel point to target this is important details.
by the way, you can throw this kick mid level will be easyer for beginning.
how to finish this kick ?
There are 2 ways for finishing this thecniques depens your next move strategi …
1- After round kick you can skip back to safe zone… you can check you opponent status and you can strike again.
2- you can drop your kicking leg closer the opponent and you can strike closer distance thecniques. Actualy, i explained this thecnique with all details in another topic. Also if you not good with closer distans tekniks you can check my another training systems. boxing, kickboxing, muaythai… some traditional martial arts technics.
If you have trouble with lead leg round kick.
try this version.
This is very basic version, i am doing very slowly.
Start with natural fight stance, step forward with support leg,
keep attention of support foot position.
when i throw round kick, same moment support foot will turn more.
in this position my heel pointed my target.
turn back where you start.
If you not flexibil enough you can throw this kick mid level.
you can see some sample with heavy bag.
I use another stategi, after kick i go closer distance…
after i turn back safe zone…
When you workout, focus all step, do it good form .
workout both leg.
dont be careless about stretching workout.
ROUND KICK (SNEAKY)
There are many kinds of round kicks.
when you sparring you can use this technique.
Start with a natural fight stance...
keep your dominant leg front.
Throw some punches, can be any combination.
The purpose is to make busy your opponent with punches.
The real strike will be a round kick.
when you pull back the last punch
same moment throw your sneaky round kick with your front leg.
İf you want to make knock down your opponent with this kick,
Your opponent's chin must be your target.
It's working very well. Let's say about another detail.
you are still in range of your opponent's punch so be careful and
don't drop your guard. Consider you can get a counter punch.
You must be fast and have good timing. This technique needs to make much practice.
Don't bend your upper body much, it makes you slower.
I said specifically for this technique.
if you need to tilt down the upper body for this technique you need to improve your flexibility.
you can look at my ultimate stretching program.
These techniques, apply in punching range which means second circles.
After kick, you can drop your kick closer to the opponent and you can make closer distance techniques or you can skip back to the safe zone...
this is a great strategy hit and run. from the safe zone, you are ready to throw a sidekick or something else from this distance.
Also, this is another good sample for how to control distance.
as I say always
if you can control the distance you can control the fight…
SWITCH KICK.
Front leg kicks are always faster than back leg kicks.
Because the front leg is closer to the target than the back leg.
However, Back leg kicks are always stronger than front leg.
it is possible to make stronger the front leg strikes with the technique I am going to teach you now.
Let’s learn details.
I am in natural fighting stance. I pull back my front foot back, same moment I adjust my support leg position. when my front foot touch to floor,
I am throwing a round kıck.
It must be fast and in good form.
I show you from the different camera angles, keep attention to my footwork…
Where you located your support foot is very important.
Support foot position set to distance. you need to consider this.
when you make practice do it slowly in good form.
Good form is the first priority.
when you be sure about good form then you can focus speed.
This kick can knock down your opponent if you aim to the liver.
But it cant be easy because usually, opponents cover the liver with their forearms.
use this tactic to open the liver;
throw some punches higher than chin level.
force your opponent to get a higher guard.
when he opens the liver you need to throw a switch kick. timing is very important.
you can set up a switch kick with this tactic.
by the way, if you don't know about punching techniques you can check my other combat training programs.
FULL ROUND HOUSE KICK
This kind of round kick creates a lot of momentum.
This momentum makes it one of the strongest types of circular kicks.
You can get the best result if you aim at the opponent's head.
Of course, this kick needs perfect quality technique and high kick level flexibility.
let's learn how to do it, step by step.
Start with a natural fighting stance.
Turn your front foot outside on the ball of your foot.
throw around kıckwith back leg.
same moment you need to keep turning on the ball of your foot.
Pay Attention to where the kick ends. This part is very important to complete turning 360 degrees and keeping balance.
If you lost balance you can give advantage to your opponent.
dont use in fighting until be sure about doing it in good form.
Roundhouse kick applies with the back leg.
You cant create such a big momentum with the front leg.
you need to finish this kick in a natural fighting stance therebefore you will be ready for the next attack.
If you fail, don't even think to quit, don't search short cut helping this kick. this is already short cut.
I share with you the synthesis(sintisis) of my 30 years of experience.
If you have trouble with the high kick, practice mid-level and improve your flexibility for the high kick.
Keep practicing with both legs.
If you can't finish with proper form you would give advantage to your opponent.
Practice with both leg.
LOW KİCK
A lowkick is a very effective kick with the shinbone.
It paralyzes the opponent's leg, causing him to lose his mobility.
Sometimes, lowkick can even knock down the opponent.
You need to aim above the knee joint.
By the way, don't strike the knee joint, it can cause permanent damage.
It is hit on the inside and outside of the opponent's leg.
The inner part of the leg is quite fragile compared to the outer part of the leg.
When you throw lowkick timing is very important as much as other strike techniques.
When the opponent steps forward or backward, it's best time to throw a low kick.
Because it's very hard to block lowkick during this time.
Before throwing a lowkick make your opponent busy and distracted with high level punches.
This is another good strategy for low kick.
When you throw lowkick closer range dont drop your hand.
Because still you are in the range of your opponent's punches.
İf you cut your opponent's angle this way will be more safe for you.
step forward outside of your opponent, cut angle, throw low kick with shinbone. you will be out of range of your opponent's punches with this technique.
At first, your shinbon may hurt. It will get used to and get stronger over time.
Practice a lot with both legs.
Back kick is very strong and effective kick if you apply in good form.
Let's learn how to throw in proper form.
start with a natural fight stance.
twist your front foot outside.
Step diagonally (dayagnali) towards your opponent with back leg.
Foot position very important.
Your heel must be pointed your target.
look to your target over shoulder. and throw to back kick with your heel.
step back to safe zone.
you are ready for another attact.
Strike again with side kick from safe zone.
Lets look from another camera angle for better understanding.
first, twist your front foot outside.
Step diagonally (dayagnali) towards your opponent with the back leg.
Foot position very important for while turning to keeping balance.
Your heel must be pointed your target.
look to your target over shoulder. and throw to back kick with your heel.
step back to safe zone.
Check your opponent position.
Strike again with side kick from safe zone.
i left some back kick samples.
You can watch and try.
Practice Both legs in clean form. This is very important for muscel memory.
Before I finish , I want to remind you that if you practice with same leg, you will turn the same way and you may feel dizzy.
Kick with one right and one left leg.
you dont feel dizzy this way.
There are different kinds of footwork for the back kick.
I suggest practicing all versions with both legs.
Footwork helps to adjust the distance between you and your opponent.
It makes your kicks faster or stronger.
Footwork also helps keep you in balance during fights.
However, footwork prepares you for the next move.
I want to show all of them one by one.
Version 1:
This is good in the beginning.
It helps adjust distance and increase the power of the back kick.
Start with a natural fight stance.
Always keep your hands up.
Turn your front foot outside.
Step diagonally (dayagnali) towards your opponent with your back leg.
Your heel must be pointed to your target, this is very important for successful back kick.
look at your target over your shoulder and throw to back kick with your heel.
step back to safe zone.
you are ready for another attack.
version 2
Start with a natural fight stance.
Very small step diagonally towards your opponent with your front leg and turn your ball of the foot.
Your heel must be pointed to your target.
look to your target over your shoulder and throw to back kick with your heel.
step back to safe zone.
you are ready for another attack.
This is faster than version 1.
version 3
start with horse stance.
turn your front foot, heel must be pointed to your target.
look at your target over your shoulder and throw a back kick with your heel.
This version increases back kick speed.
This is the fastest version of foot work for back kicks.
If you missed round kick drop your kickick leg side stance, from this point you can use this foot work.
Practice all versions with both legs.
When you do any attack technique, you need to consider how to finish it.
So it's not enough to just throwing kick, you have to finish it right form and be ready for the next attack or defense. Even you need to have a plan for the next move.
now I'm going to show you 2 ways then you can finish back kick the best way.
Since I have explained how to apply the back kick before, now I will start to explain from the ending part.
method 1
finish with side stance...we already learned this technique. Let's remember now.
After the back kick, skip back to the safe zone and check your opponent's position. If you want to strike again with a sidekick. this is a great method of hit and run.
Let's talk about benefits of this method.
If you don't know how to finish back kick right form and miss your opponent.
Probably you will be off-balance and You will be in a very difficult situation.
Your opponent will have a huge opportunity to take you down.
The biggest advantage of this technique is that even if you miss the kick,
You will have a 2.th chance.
you can return to the safe zone and stay out of range of your opponent's possible attack techniques.
It also gives you a very good sidekick angle.
method 2
finish with a natural fight stance. after hit to back kick, you need to pull back kick to a natural fight stance.
This technique will offer you many options that can be used from the natural fighting position.
I will now show a few examples.
Now I am finishing with a natural fight stance and I strike from this stance.
as you see there are many stirek option from natural fight stance.
Practice all method…
İf you have trouble with the basic back kick version, first focus half back kick for fixing the problem.
If you are fighting more than one opponent, this technique can be very useful.
for example,
İf someone attacks you from behind you can use this technique and neutralize the attacker.
Let's learn how to do a half back kick.
Turn your back to a heavy bag.
You need to take a small step towards your opponent with a support leg..
at the same moment look at your target over your shoulder.
hit to back kick with your heel and
come back where you start.
if you aim at your opponent's liver, it makes him painfully knock down.
By the way, I would like to talk about the small difference between a sidekick and a back kick.
small details can make big differences.
You can see the back kick at the top of the screen and side kick at the bottom.
Knees are kept close together while hitting back and kicking.
When side kicking, the knees move away from each other.
So, when throwing a side kick, the knee is more open to the side.
In the traditional back kick, the knee is even closer together and the kicking foot is held more vertically.
but this version can cause lower back pain also it's very hard to see the target in this version.
so i don't recommend this version. This version used to be in old school karate and taekwondo.
Since we started talking about the difference between side kick and back kick, let's briefly talk about the upper body position.
When we sidekick, both shoulders and kicks are parallel to each other...
When we back kick, our backs turn to the opponent more, so our shoulders are no longer parallel.
You can easily see this in the sample video.
Practice this kick with both legs.
All jump kicks are more powerful than the base versions.
The primary purpose of all jump kicks is to transfer body weight onto the kick to generate more power.
We're also create momentum with jumping that will further increase the power of the hit towards the opponent.
We can kick this kick in several ways.
before practice this kick technique, make sure you throw the basic version in good form.
step forward with your front leg.
push off floor and jump.
show fake knee.
and throw push kick...
step back safe zone...
this version was aim mid level.
also this kick can aim very high level.
You can throw this kick very tall opponent.
push off floor and jump with the front leg.
show fake knee.
and throw push kick…
firs version was horizantal
this version is vertial.
if you have trouble with this kick.
try this exercise...
both practice with both legs.
The front kick is a great kick that is very useful.
It helps you keep your opponent away from you.
It is easy to apply. It doesn't require a lot of flexibility or skill.
With enough practice, most people can apply it well.
Let's start with the basic version.
You can throw with the front leg or the back leg.
The front leg push is faster because it is closer to the opponent.
The back leg push kick is stronger.
Start with the natural fighting position.
This kick has two important phases.
loading and exploding...
pull your knee towards you. this is the loading phase.
then hit the kick. this is the exploding phase.
Keep your knee closer to your upper body in the loading phase.
In the exploding phase, tilt the upper body slightly backward.
This makes your kick stronger. it also keeps your head out of range of the opponent's punch.
50% of this kick is hitting, the other 50% is pushing.
After push kick skip back to the safe zone.
If your opponent's close-range techniques are better than yours.
you can keep them away from you with this kick.
Also, in self-defense scenarios, you can knock down someone who comes at you.
When you are in combat you need to control distance.
İf you can control the distance you can control the fight.
You need to know how to do proper steps to control distance…
let's look at how to throw a push kick with step.
there are 2 main benefits to using steps.
benefit 1-if you are not in range of throwing a push kick you can step forward and cover the distance.
benefit 2-when you start with step, you start a movement towards to opponent. this increases the power of the push kick.
i will give you 2 sample how to appy in combat.
sample 1:
Start with a natural fighting stance.
step towards to target with the front leg.
this step, shouldn't be large that it makes you off balance.
pull your knee towards to your upper body.
loading phase is ok now.
throw the push kick and release all power towards to target.
now, exploding phase is done.
dont lost control and come back on safe zone.
sample 2:
start with a natural fighting stance.
step towards to target with the back leg.
this step can be bigger than sample 1.
so you can apply this techniqs
if you are farther than sample 1.
pull your knee towards to your upper body.
loading phase is ok now.
throw the push kick and release all power towards to target.
now, exploding phase is done.
don't lost control and come back to the safe zone.
Practice both legs.
Practice making your technique perferct.
We use this techniques from far distance and
We can reach to target very fast and effectively.
start with a natural fight stance.
pull your knee towards your upper body.
This is loading phase same as a regular push kick.
same moment push to floor with support leg and small jump towards your opponent.
throw push kick…
catch your target…
Don't forget to tilt down your upper body in an exploding phaze.
This is a very strong push kick if you apply in good timing and good technique you can knock down your target.
you can keep your opponent out of punch range with any kind of push kick.
practice both legs till it's become in perfect form.
FRONT KICK (TO CHIN SNEAKY)
I call this technique sneaky front kick.
with enough practice, you can hit this kick from between the opponent's forearms. Even when he keeps high guard.
first, start with a natural fight stance.
you can keep your dominant leg front.
as I said before lead leg closer to the opponent, this makes it faster.
however, you can throw this kick from the back leg as well.
Throw some punches before the sneaky front kick.
Make your opponent distracted with punches.
the purpose is to create a position for a sneaky front kick.
when you see opportunity throw front kick like third arm.
When you apply this technique, Don't bend your upper body much.
You can imagine that your leg is a spear.
Stub spear into opponent's chin.
if you can hit the chin, you can knock down your opponent.
when you apply this technique don't drop your guard, you are still within range of the opponent’s punches.
don't forget that practice both legs.
If you be able to pull your knee towards to upper body easily. you can apply this technique very good. If not you need to improve your flexibility. You can check my Ultimate stretching program, It will help you. Also you can aim to your opponent stomach this is another option.
After learn this technicque, final step is timing.
bottom line, practice is so important to be perfect.
Dont hit with the toes, you need to hit with ball off foot.
you can see in the screen now.
Front kick looks like push kick.
actualy there are 2 main difrence.
technical and strategly,
as a technical;
front kick is %100 hitting.
push kick is %50 hitting %50 pushing.
as a strategly;
if i want to keep my opponent away from me, i use push kick.
for example, during combat you can feel tired and need to rest, like take a breath,
then you can keep away your opponent with push kick.
another example,
your opponent's closer distance techniques can be better than yours.
you can keep your distance with push kick in such a scenario.
Lets talk about front kick strategy
İf i want to strike closer combat techniques after kick
then i use front kick instead of push kick.
when i throw a front kick my opponent will be still in range bec i will not push him .
so i can do closer combat techniques.
another benefit of front kick,
i can keep attention my opponent's to middle level, when he drop guard i strike to face level.
repat front kick till opponent open guard
now let's learn front kick details.
first throw some punches to face level and keep attention up side.
after, pull your knee towards to your body, hit to front kick with ball of foot and pull back without pushing.
when your opponent drop guard strike to head with closer combat techinques.
if you dont know enough about closer combat techniques check my another combat training system.
like boxing, kick boxing muay thai…
push kick hitting with foot sole.
front kick hitting with ball of your foot.
if you try to hitting with toes you can hurt your self.
now i m gonna show you where is the ball of foot.
AVOID PUSH KICK MISTAKE
how to finish push kick as much as important how to throw push kick.
When you apply push kıck you can create such a big power.
you need to learn how to control this power.
You can lost control after push kick and this can be big opportunately for your opponent, big problem for you.
Now i am gonna teach you if you drop your kick forward and lost control after push kick.
if you drop your kick closer the opponent there are 2 option…
1- immediately apply closer combat techniques.
2-skip back to safe zone and control distance…
Even if you have no experience, you will learn the techniques step by step with this training system.
You will find details from basic techniques to advanced techniques.
If you're into martial arts and have a hard time kicking, it's not because you're untalented.
This is mostly due to insufficient technical knowledge.
With sufficient technical knowledge and practice, you can throw excellent kicks.
In this program, you will learn step-by-step from the most basic techniques to the most advanced techniques.
