Description
There is so much more to testing games than just playing them! QA career is considered entryway to the gaming industry and if you are interested in joining this lucrative and fascinating industry, testing job might be just the right start. In this course, you will gain necessary skills for QA job and learn:
- basics of quality assurance (testing)
- how to manually test games
- what is a bug and how to report them
- how to select and use testing tools for manual testing
- how to write excellent test cases that will yield bugs for a long time
- what is a testing strategy and how to pick the right one
- basics of testing methodology.
Many lessons will also apply to general software testing. At the end of the course, you will have skills to start and improve your QA career in games, and a deeper understanding of what is QA and why it is necessary for any modern software development. Besides testing, you will also learn more about the gaming industry in general, how gaming studios work and basics of agile methodologies.
This course is aimed at people who are interested in starting their QA career in the gaming industry, but it's beneficial for anybody already working in QA, considering changing careers to QA, or requires a deeper insight into how manual testing is done (for example producers, product owners, project managers).
This course can be taken without prior experience in the gaming and tech industry, but a general understanding of technology and software is beneficial. You don't need to invest into any special tools or software for this course, as we will be focusing our practice on free-to-play games and software that has limited free usage.

Instructor
Nikolina has 10 years of gaming experience and another 10 in software industry. She has been recognised for her contribution to QA practices by being nominated for Tester of the year by Finnish Testing Association. Her book, "Modern Game Testing" has been fantastically received by the gaming community and can be purchased in all major retailers world-wide.
Nikolina has been working on over 20 games and was in charge for QA on several Angry Birds franchise games. She teaches QA as a guest lecturer on several Finnish universities, like Amiedu and KAMK. For the last five years, Nikolina has been an entrepreneur and also a founder of QA agency, FXPS Services. For her contribution to tech industry and diversity in tech, Nikolina has been a finalist of the Everywomen in Tech Awards.
In her past, Nikolina did almost every type of QA, from localization to live OPS, on the range of platforms: from large databases, web, through every imaginable gaming platform. These days, her QA work is mostly in management, but she still regularly finds bugs in any software.
