Finally an introduction video that explains all the boilerplate Java code. Yes it is true that it can take time to understand everything, but  i try to break it all down in this episode. Public static void main(String[] args){} actually means something. We also touch on input and output using System as well as Scanner.

In this episode we take a look at the most important primitive (built in) types in Java. These are the building blocks for more complex types (Classes). We also take a look at String and proper string comparison. Operators are explained as well.

Java Data Types - Primitive Types, String objects, Operators

Control flow is the basis for more complex applications. Here we talk about if statements, else if, and else. We also look at looks and the fundamental pieces of every loop: Initialization, condition (or comparison), and an update. This will make for loops, while loops, and do-while loops a lot easier!

Control Flow - Loops, if Statements, Boolean Expressions, Logical Operators

Collections allow us to store related data in one structure. This is foundational for scalable applications. We talk in this video about arrays as well as arrayLists.

Collections - Working with Arrays and Generic Lists, Range Based for Loop

Unfortunately it would take us a life time to cover everything with object oriented programming. In this episode we cover the basics. We talk about Classes, objects, static methods vs instance methods, how to instantiate an object. Custom constructors and default constructors, encapsulation with getters and setters, etc. Fun stuff!

Introduction to Object Oriented Programming (OOP) - Classes, Objects, etc
  • A computer with Windows, Mac, or Linux.
  • Attention to detail. One typo means your code likely won't run. Pay attention closely!
  • Focus. A LOT of information is covered in this course. Following allowing / taking notes is essential.
