Explain how Primavera P6 supports construction project management, review the interface, and outline a 30-video series covering WBS, EPS, OBS, calendars, resources, baselines, earned value, and reports.
Create a new Primavera P6 IT building construction project under the Construction EPS, ID ITC, planned start October 22, 2018, assigned to Sunil Sharma under Balaji, using the Gantt chart.
Adds 13 construction activities in Primavera P6 across civil works, finishing, and MEP, and prepares to define relationships and scheduling for a site clearance to handover workflow.
Learn how to assign resources to activities in Primavera P6 for a construction project, calculating budgeted total cost with labor, machinery, and materials, and tracking expenses.
Explore how to use the resource assignments window in Primavera P6 to analyze budgeted units, man hours, and machine hours, customize roles, collapse levels, and copy data to Excel.
Learn to create and apply resource codes in Primavera P6, assign subcontractor types to resources, and group or filter resources by type, calendar, or vendor for project insights.
Add documents and work products to Primavera P6, including contracts, drawings, change orders, and variation claims, then assign them to WBS or activities with category, status, revision dates, and attachments.
Add expenses and indirect costs to project activities in Primavera P6 by assigning cost accounts, categories, and accrual types, then track budgeted, actual, remaining, and completion costs.
Create a new currency in Primavera P6 via admin currencies, then assign it in user preferences to apply across all activities, and configure symbol, exchange rate, decimals, and appearance.
Learn to manage admin categories in Primavera P6, including baselines, expenses, risk, WBS, documents, notebooks, and units of measurement. Add or customize categories using the admin tools and plus button.
Learn how to customize admin preferences in Primavera P6, including defaults for duration and calendars, ID length and limits, earned value formulas, reports, and industry site options.
Learn to generate and customize Primavera P6 reports, print previews, and print setup, using the reports wizard or the reports tab to create predefined and tailored reports for projects.
Import Primavera P6 data from formats like Microsoft Project XML and Excel into new or existing projects. Map header codes, set layout, and manage additions or deletions during import.
This is a different project from what we have used in our above sections. You can find the attached pdf for the project resources & other details. I am not going in depth for creation & project setup since it is bonus section. This only focuses on delay analysis. Doing this section is optional.
Apply the as-planned vs as-built delay analysis in Primavera P6 by cleaning the view, adding baseline and variance columns, updating actual dates, and comparing baseline and actual durations and costs.
Apply the impacted as planned technique in Primavera P6 to create delay fragments, assign baseline, model delays (dewatering, rework, productivity), and analyze schedule and cost impacts.
The course is divided into 9 Sections consisting of a total of 31 videos. One practical IT Building Construction Project has been taken as an example to help the students learn the process of scheduling & project management. The project has set of activities, WBS, resources, costs, baseline, expenses, documents, risks, etc. Everything is explained in the simplest way possible through real examples to help the students get an industry like exposure. It is ensured that every video is linked to the real project scenarios unlike other teachers who randomly take topics and examples having absolutely zero correlation with each other. This will also help you get the real feel of executing a project at site.
The flow of the course is as follows -
Section 1 (Introduction) - Shows the outline of the complete course and is meant to make you aware of the User Interface of the software.
Section 2 (Planning the Project) - Here you will learn to create the real project by adding Organizational Structure, Company's Divisions, Project, and Work Packages.
Section 3 (Working with Activities) - Talks every minute detail of adding the activities and tasks. Assign relationships, adjust settings, assign constraints, and a lot more stuff.
Section 4 (Working with Calendars) - Create and Assign your own customized calendars as per the project site requirements. Set working hours, days, exceptions, etc. Also, learn the most important feature of Global Change of P6.
Section 5 (Resources) - Create labor, material, P&M, staff, etc. as resources for your project and assign them to the respective activities. Learn everything about the resources through histograms, levelling, usage profiles, assignment, etc.
Section 6 (Codes) - Learn about Activity & Resource codes and get acquainted with the Grouping, Sorting, Filter By options of P6.
Section 7 (Progress Tracking & EVA) - Here comes the most crucial part that helps you grasp the concept of Earned Value Management in Construction through updation of project progress status.
Section 8 (Additional Settings) - Learn about risk management (identification, impact, mitigating), Work products & documents (claim letters, contract, WO, PO, etc.), adding expenses and Indirect costs, adding and creating currencies, admin categories, preferences, etc.
Section 9 (Reporting, Exporting, Importing) - Close the course by generating reports and presenting them in the most impressive way to your supervisors and boss. Also, learn importing and exporting resources, roles, projects from/to various formats like excel, MSP, P6, etc.
And, you are ready to take over the scheduling duties.
