Description

ISO 50001 is the international standard for energy management systems (EnMS) — the world's common language for managing energy. It defines the requirements for establishing, implementing and improving a system that reduces energy consumption, improves energy efficiency and cuts energy costs, in any organization, of any size, in any sector.

This course presents the requirements of ISO 50001:2018 in detail, with examples for better understanding, following the structure of the standard:

  • Context of the organization — internal and external issues, interested parties and their needs and expectations, and the scope of the energy management system

  • Leadership — top management involvement and support, the energy policy, roles, responsibilities and authorities, and the energy management team

  • Planning — the analytical heart of ISO 50001:

    • Risks and opportunities, objectives, energy targets and action plans

    • The energy review — analysing energy use and consumption, identifying significant energy uses (SEUs) and the variables that affect them, and finding opportunities to improve energy performance

    • Energy performance indicators (EnPIs), energy baselines (EnBs), and planning the collection of energy data

  • Support — resources, competence, awareness, communication, and the documented information required by the standard

  • Operation — operational controls for energy performance, energy-efficient design, and energy performance considerations in procurement
