
Welcome! This section will introduce you to the different books we'll be making on this course. Each sketchbook has it's own video and accompanying photo guide to help you.
In this video I'll talk about the tools and materials we'll be working with on this course.
Our first sketchbook is made from a simple rectangle of paper. This is a quick and easy make and a great starting point to ease you into making your own inventive books.
You will need:
Paper
Scissors or craft knife, ruler and cutting mat
Our second book is also made from a simple sheet of paper and can be easily customised depending on how you want to use it.
You will need:
Paper

Our third book can be made from a variety of papers and in this video I'll show you ways of preparing your paper as well as how to make this sketchbook.
You will need:
An assortment of papers
Elastic bands
A piece of cardboard (e.g. from a cardboard box or bit of packaging)
Scissors or craft knife and cutting mat
Ruler
Spoon
This sketchbook builds on the skills from the last sketchbook (the elastic band book) but is finished with a simple stitch binding instead.
You will need:
An assortment of papers
Card (for the cover)
Strip of paper the same height as your book pages
Pencil
Scissors
Needle
Strong thread (a strong embroidery thread is good)
This is a really fun make and great for using up things like leaflets, tourist maps and other bits and pieces you may have collected.

The last sketchbook I'm going to share with you is the origami sketchbook. Using simple folds you'll learn to create an expanding sketchbook that's great for playing with form and colour.

To take your inventive books to the next level you might want to add covers. This video will show you a simple way of creating beautiful covers for that finishing touch!

Cardboard (the backs of old sketchbooks is perfect!)

In this final video I'll share some of my Inventive Sketchbooks with you and show you some of the ways I use them. There's also a certificate that you can download as a record of your achievement!
On this course you will learn how to make six different sketchbooks using tools and materials you probably already have or can easily get hold of. You'll learn a variety of techniques including different ways to cut and fold paper to make a set of sketchbooks that you can personalise in a variety of ways. The basic skills you'll need are easily mastered and in no time at all you'll be creating your own inventive sketchbooks!
