Navigate the ZBrush UI with controls: rotate around the object, pan with alt, zoom with alt or ctrl+right click, frame with F, and explore the brush palette and tool areas.
Explore the gizmo and transform tools in ZBrush, mastering move, rotate, and scale, the gear icon deformers and actions, and bend, twist, taper, and remesh for precise sculpting.
Learn how to manage subtools in zbrush, where every piece of a character is its own mesh, and use append, insert, duplicate, merge down, and split to organize and sculpt.
Learn to use masking in ZBrush to control sculpting, protect areas, isolate regions, and create armor by using mask brushes, blur and sharpen transitions, inverse masks, and gizmo masking.
Explore ZBrush stroke types and how brush behavior changes with each stroke, including track dot, drag rectangle, and spray, plus how lazy mouse stabilizes long lines for clean edges.
Discover live booleans in ZBrush to build complex armor and mechanical shapes in real time, using symmetry, add/subtract/intersect operations, knife curve cuts, and non-destructive Dynamesh workflows.
Master uv master in zbrush as a quick, easy uv tool for low-poly meshes, enabling control painting, symmetry, and protect areas for simple unwraps.
Master importing and exporting models in ZBrush, choose OBJ or FBX, export all subtools or individually, and save as a tool rather than a heavy project file.
Shape a creature from a sphere, establishing main forms and proportions through a blockout, using dynamesh and clay buildup to place eyes, nose, mouth, neck, ears, and horns.
Pose a creature in Zbrush using the move brush to break symmetry, adjust the face and lip, plan space for teeth, manage layers when adding scars, and use transpose master.
Refine outfit forms by subdividing the mesh, adjust thickness with standard and inflate brushes, duplicate elements, and use symmetry and polygroup extrusion to add detail.
Refine the gloves using transpose master with symmetry, masking, and the standard and clay brush to deepen wrinkles, add inflate details and stitches, and preview the boots next.
Explore helmet damage modeling in zbrush by building and duplicating meshes, applying symmetry on the z axis, using dynamic subdivision, polygroups, and thickness for realistic wrinkles and details.
Refine the character’s shape with the clay brush, smooth surfaces, turn off symmetry, and add wrinkles, tension, subtle damage, and strap and button details.
Are new to ZBrush and feel intimidated by the software
Want to learn stylized character sculpting step by step
Prefer a clear, no-rush learning pace without skipped steps
By the End Of This Course, You Will Be Able To:
Confidently use ZBrush and sculpt stylized characters from scratch, even if you are completely new to the software.
Understand the core sculpting tools, brushes, and workflows needed to start and finish a stylized character entirely inside ZBrush.
About Me:
My name is Mahdi Khouei, and I have been a 3D character artist for a decade now. I have worked in VFX and the game industry, as well as 3D printing. Currently, I’m working as a freelance 3D character artist.
What You Will Learn:
Navigate the ZBrush interface with confidence
Understand essential ZBrush tools and sculpting brushes
Build clean stylized forms from simple blockouts
Develop primary, secondary, and tertiary shapes
Practice sculpting through guided mini projects
Sculpt a complete stylized character from start to finish
Course Project Overview:
In this course, you will learn how to use ZBrush as your main sculpting tool to create stylized characters from the ground up. The training is divided into 6 structured stages and 46 lessons, designed to gradually introduce tools and concepts without overwhelming beginners.
You will complete two mini projects to practice the fundamentals and reinforce key sculpting concepts. In the final project, you will sculpt a full stylized character, applying everything you’ve learned — from initial blockout to a finished sculpt.
By the end of the 11 hours and 22 minutes of instruction, you will have a clear understanding of the ZBrush workflow and the confidence to start your own stylized character projects independently.
Who Is This Course For?
