Description

In this course we will discuss all the key elements of weather routing, in order to learn how to create and analyze a routing strategy through modern navigation instruments:Cartography (raster and vector charts), Polar curves and sail charts (both on graphic and on tables), Meteorological models (what are the main models, the difference between websites and the use of GRIB files) and the theory behind the process of creating a comprehensive routing strategy. An introductory course where students can learn everything they need to know to start planning their offshore sailing (regattas or deliveries) more accurately. We want to transmit a method more then just a series of concepts.

In the last decades software and weather files have become more and more available even to the week end sailors and this is a freat opportunity to sail faster and in a safer way during offshore passages. Unfortunately misinformation and "plug and play apps" make it look like just a matter of inserting some data in a magic box that will tell you exactly where to go. But this is actually not what weather routing is about. It is more about studying options and scenarios, understanding patterns and warning signs and overall understanding more about the environment around us when we set sail for offshore sailing.

Everything done using diagrams, examples and quiz to make it 100% clear!
